welcome aboard my friend u have a very nice watch.. urs is X series model..that is 1992 model..but i want to tell u its in a very good condition..according to my knowledge the newer better bracelet with solid end links.. newer clasp..and also the new models have fat minute and hour hands. and of course there is ROLEXROLEX engraved inside the case along with the serial number..which is basically Rolex began using this security feature on the Z series model.. which is late 2006-2007.. actually thats what i know..but i am sure the members here will give you much more knowledge

Thanks Yazan! I thought it looked different but kinda cool...especially with the black sub-dials....do you know if I can upgrade my bracelet to the newer "SEL" kind, or should I keep everything original to it?

looks beautiful!! also the sub dials of the white face daytona changed from circa 2000 from black to silver/grey. your watch will have a zenith movement 4030 rather than the in house rolex movement 4130 they use now, post 2000 once again.

As Christopher said, the movement in your Daytona the Zenith El Primero caliber 400 (tweaked by Rolex and renamed 4030) with the seconds subdial at the 9:00 position. Newer versions with the in-house 4130 movement have the seconds sub-dial at the 6:00 position.

Also, the upper subdials on yours are exactly centered on the 3:00 - 9:00 equator, while 4130 models have the subdials moved above that point.

Thanks, Toph!
So- does that mean the Zenith movement lowers it value since it's not a Rolex "in-house" movement? I know my questions seem dumb-LOL but I am still a "newbie" and learning...

I ahve been wondering about this for a while now...many people put a premium on the out of production SS Daytonas with the Zenith movement. Why is that ? Simple issue of rarity now making it more collectible ? Or is the Zenith movement somehow superior to the current Rolex in-house movement?

not dumb at all- the only one way to find out , is to ask. As Yazan said, the models with the Zenith movement are now commanding a higher price, possibly as they are no longer in production, harder to find and are more desireable to certain collectors at the present time.

Welcome...

Please don't take this the wrong way, because I don't mean to be rude but, thats a pricey watch. Other than it belonged to a buddy...what sort of research did you do about it to begin with that made you want to buy it??? Other than it is a cool looking Daytona?

It's interesting, isn't it- that people who begin with "Please don't take this the wrong way," or "I don't meanto be rude" usually have something rude or offensive to say to the person whom they're addressing...whatever. To answer your "question" I bought it because I liked it. That should be reason enough. However...I did choose the Daytona with the Zenith "El Primero" caliber movement because I thought it was pretty "cool" that Rolex tuned down the original BpH of the El Primero down from 36,000 to 28,800.I'm also a fan of the stark white dial with the black subs centered precisely on the 3 and 9 o'clock equator.
Looks and history of the Cosmograph aside, it just "spoke" to me...
As for my "Buddy" he's a wealth of information on watches as well as a dealer.
Now I just have to ask: What in the world inspired a question like that? So much for being a "friendly forum"...
You could've PM'd me...

Agree it is "interesting" when people who say "don't take this the wrong way" follow up with something rude...but in my case, I actually tried to take some precautions / preface my questions, but sometimes it's a no win. Guess there was no way to ask the question - at least to you. Sorry if it came across rudely.

You didn't notice me saying Welcome I take it. Oh well.

What inspired me to ask the question was I have seen folks ask similar questions when inheriting a watch and/or not being a watch fan and asking the forum. It's rare I think to hear the question from an enthusiast like yourself.

I was genuinely wondering what you were trying to find out about the watch. Sounds like you know quite a bit, but I didn't know that.

It's a pretty nice watch, I have to say.

Hope you have a nice day

Masugu,
I'm sorry...
I did'nt mean to go off on you like that. Accept my apology? Please?
What I was trying to find out about my watch was if there was a HUGE difference in performance/accuracy between Zenith's 4030 and Rolex's "in-house" 4130... I do know that the 4130 has less parts, and is easier to service, but that's about it.
Again, Sorry to have gotten off on the wrong foot...Have a great day.

No worries...

I could have been ruder if I was the jealous type

I covet your Daytona (or even a mere "pedestrian" SS / White or Black Dial Daytona - big time.

Used to be a Daytona "whatever" person. Now I like 'em dammit.
