Icon4 New Reference Got Me Thinking

So I was pondering PAM's and the fact that all references, if I'm not mistaken, have serial numbers and other etchings on the screw off case back. This provides some safeguards to us as we can always get a new case if something gets damaged (i.e., lugs, quick change strap system, screws get stripped, etc).

The above said, the 372 now boasts the serial number right on the case itself. How is this going to affect an owner that may possibly need a case replacement down the road? Do you think Panerai will replace a case and re-etch it with the same serial number? I would doubt it, but could be wrong....

Thoughts?

It's an interesting point. I wonder if they have a special series of numbers for replacement cases.

I know cases have been replaced due to a problem with the new strap changing system. All that I'm aware of, of course, were done by Panerai, but I can't remember reading anything about re-scribing the serial number.

I've heard of casebacks being replaced and the replacement caseback was a blank. They did send documentation indicating the caseback was switched to a blank. I thought I remember seeing one such case on p.com a while back.

Yeah, I'm ponding the 372 as well. Trying to determineif it is "worth" it. Don't get me wrong, I the way it looks, etc. I'm still worried about wearing it a lot. Man it is big and I'm not! Plus, 10k for a two handed watch that only has 14 more hours of PR over a standard ETA movement. I look at it, and I'm in love, but something is telling me.....I'm not sure.

I know what you MIK. The 372 is a real looker.

I told my AD to get me a 371 if he can. It seems to have flown under the radar, but it hit a chord with me. A submersible with a GMT feature---What's not to love!!

Love the blue color of it, but where is the am/pm indicator! Same boat as the 320.

Hmmm...a blank caseback?!?!? I thought the caseback would be unscrewed and placed on the new case? Man, that wouldn't go over well with me if they sent it back blank though!

No, I heard the caseback was damaged and replaced.

I don't consider it bad at all. All Rolex cases have the serial number engraved on the case. The newer ones have it on the rehaut too.

Just don't damage your case and your fine!

A small risk, but a risk non-the-less.

Trying to push me over the edge eh. I'm really hoping to try one on. Hoping Panerai will have their "road" show with Heidi to let me have a test drive with it.

10k is a lot of change for my meager budget.

Re: the new engraving...It seems pretty visible whilst you are wearing a strap. I don't like this...

Anyone else not care for it as well??

Bill, its on the back side of the watch. Not sure how it would be visible.
