PAM 5 movement question

I just purchased my first Panerai last week. A PAM 005. I love the watch, but I have a quick question that I'm sure someone will easily know the answer to.

When I pull the crown to the 2nd position to adjust the time, the second hand at the 9 o'clock continues to move. Is this how the movement is designed? Is there another way to stop the movement of the second hand, I do not believe that there is room for a third position pull of the crown.

I would like to know how to stop the movement entirely if something unfortunate happened to the crystal etc.

Thank you!

Hey..

there is no 'hack' feature on the 005.. meaning you can't manually stop the second hand unfortunately. until the power reserves runs out, it will continue to tick.
hope this helps.

Unfortunately, as sphereman pointed out, the movement doesn't hack. It did make me seriously consider a 312 just so I could have a hacking movement again (because I'm anal about timing my watches), but I did learn a little trick that helps:

When you have the crown pulled out to the 2nd position, if you turn it the opposite way ever so slightly and apply a tiny bit of pressure, the second hand will actually run backwards for a second or two and then it will stop as long as you continue to hold it. You can then move it forward again ever-so-slightly and it will start back up.

From what I've read, as long as you're gentle with it there is no danger or harming the movement by doing this, and I believe it's actually the sign of a "healthy" movement. But, someone who is more of a movement expert than myself may have a different/more educated opinion.

All I can tell you is this is how I set mine, although I do it rarely since it keeps such good time. Good luck and enjoy that new five!!

Twinkies!

Thank you! I bought the five to be a contrast to the other watches I already have, and this just feels like icing on the cake! I am in love with the manual wind and it keeps time noticibly better than my Rolex already.

What a wonderfully quirky watch! Now to collect some straps!!!

Yup thats right, no hack on the 005, doesnt make the watch less beautiful though! Congrats on your purchase! :)
