polishing
Hey gang, anyone know if polishing your watch have any ill effects later on? How often do you guys polish out your little scratches? Should I not worry about it and do it once service? Or is cape cod completely safe for me to do as many times as I like?
Thanks in advance for any insight. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Polishing will dull edges and remove an ever so slight amount of metal so I'd save it for service time.

Seriously, I'm not joking here, but small scratches all over make Panerai historic models look great.
Looks like you have a 312, so that is pretty close to historic. I say let it live a bit and get over the OCD! ![]()

I prefer no polishing, but if you want to have it done wait until service time

Cape cod won't hurt as long as you don't do it too often.

And oh, if done on brushed areas, it will never be the same again..

Interesting - I went into a local - high-end - watch shop in San Jose and ask about polishing a Rolex Explorer (39mm) I was selling. It was practically new (on warranty), and they said they don't polish watches as it can invalidate the warranty. Whether this is true or not, I decided I'd just sell it with "factory authorized" scratches - as minute as they were.
