Seems like a good choice to me. If it doesn't work out you should get most of your money back.

To many, the zero is THE perfect first PAM, and it has a strong following even with those that have been around the brand for a long time.

Looking forward to your wrist shots.......and eventual descent into strap addiction.

Allow me to offer the lone dissenting opinion. I started my PAM collection with a Base 000 and found it to be the most uncomfortable watch I have ever worn. The case back is slightly shallower than the display back on the 111, 112, etc. causing the edge of the case itself to grind into my arm.

I purchased a PAM 177 in titanium about two weeks after I bought my 000 and found it to be the most comfortable watch I have ever owned. I attribute the comfort to the slightly higher case back and the much lighter weight. The 177 has become one of my perennial favorites. I also prefer the darker, brushed finish of the Ti models, but that is a separate issue. If you want a 000 and like the polished look, I would lean toward the 112; or if it was me, I would go for the 176.

Just my $.02...

I bought the 177 a few weeks ago myself and I barely notice it on my wrist. It's a pleasure to wear.

I agree 100%. To the OP, if you prefer the Base to the Marina, then 176 is the titanium version of the 112.

000 is not only a great starter Panerai, but a great one for even a seasoned collector.

Both have the same water resistance and can withstand quite a lot but between the sub and base, I'd have picked the base every time. The 6497 manual movement is tough and reliable and has fewer parts than the 3135. It's also easily the cheaper watch to service.

My first Pam was a zero and I've still got it. It's a great choice.

wokafu,
to answer your question, the answer would be 'No'.

Anyway, PAM 000 is the perfect starting point for the Panerai grail. This model also retains its value due to its simplicity and clean face.

in the luminors, only the 1950 case has no cyclops....so, you're "stuck" with that (312 and friends), or, you could get a replacement crystal sans cyclops and look at the 104 and 164 (both are autos, btw).

personally, i don't mind the cyclops. it balances the dial nicely against the small seconds hand, magnifies the date and provides some visual interest.

Can't go wrong with the zero. I still want one and I think it would be a perfect daily wearer.

after doing some research last night (its all Oscar's fault again) I have learned a bit about the differences in the models of PAMs. I have learned sausage dials, sandwich dials, second hands luminor and radiomir.

I wanted a 000 and still do. But the 112 sings to me more now because of the sandwich dial and the clear case back looks cool to me.

I'd say... 000, 005, 112, 111, 176, or 177 would be perfect for you. But, I'd definitely recommend you checking it out at an AD to see it in flesh.
