Nice, although in line with Panerai's "every possible combination of our features" approach to new references
Makes me wonder at what point they will decide they have too many models

Looks okay to me (the 523), but I'm with you Clive, my mind is boggling already with the current crop on top of what has been produced in the last few years particularly.
Nearly as many models as JLC has produced calibers...

cheers,
richard

well, compared to rolex, it's still practically nothing. how many thousands of DJ combinations are there, when you take into account the lady models as well as the various sizes?

anyway, yes, the 523 has been on the radar since january (click here). i did some poking around and found some additional pictures:

one additional point, i had not noticed that the 523 is now on OP's website (click here), but the 510 & 511 are still not on the site.

i wonder if that means the "8 Days" text is still under review???

That's true, although essentially these are dial/bezel/bracelet options within a model line with Rolex, as opposed to launching a new model with each slight variation. I suppose it really amounts to the same thing - a large variety of options covering a handful a case shapes/sizes. I just think that the range has become confusing. Paradoxically, it seems to be hard to actually buy one - stock trickles into ADs and new models take forever to show up. And too much nonsense required to purchase LE/SE/boutique pieces.

Anyway... I'm still a sucker for the brand!

If it were a 44mm I'd agree, but since there are about 1-2 42mm models, I disagree. Perhaps good place to stop rolling out even more redundant models is probably in the 44mm camp, which is too large for most folks any way.

BTW...did you notice the fully polished case versus the 392's brushed case?

Also, if it's now on the website, when can we expect to be able to buy/wear one?

I hope so, although don't mind the text too much. I suppose they have to visually differentiate the model somehow, although I would be happy just with a display caseback to show the new inhouse movement

Not sure what the situation is in the US, but difficult to say in this part of the world. The ADs seem to have no input as to what pieces they receive or when - it's a 'surprise' when a new consignment arrives. Therefore anyone wanting on a specific piece could be waiting for months - or longer. I expect that boutiques are a better bet, but there are currently none in Aus.

Hi Clive, at least we (or is it just me!) in Tasmania share something in common; no boutique.
At least you have an AD, even if they don't have any stock.

BTW Michael, at 42mm it's a size I do like, bet it's thicker than the 141 though.

cheers,
richard

42mm is the Goldilocks size. Thankful they make them now but the line needs more of them. People say they are not popular, but when there are only a few models in that size, it is impossible to be popular.

Can't speak for the thickness compared to the 141.

141 is 11mm thick, or thin if you compare to other Panerai.
Being an auto makes the comparison even more relevant.

45mm Radiomir (to me) seems to wear smaller than the Luminor in 44mm.

42mm, it's not for everyone. But it is for me!

cheers,
richard

Yes, a boutique in Melb &/or Sydney would be nice. We have one AD in Melb, and they rarely have much stock. Better than nothing though!
