How Do You Answer The "What Kind Of Watch Is That" Question?

Just curious; if you're ever asked "What kind of watch is that?" how do you respond? I respond with the model name, and that usually ends any further questions or comments. If anything, it's followed by an "Oh" and a puzzled look.

My brother in-law asked me. I just responded the new submariner, he said "oh wow" ...idk why but I always feel a little uneasy or embarrassed when someone asked me and have to tell them it's a rolex.

I feel the same. I think that no matter how I say "It's a Rolex" I'll be perceived as a snob.

Most of my associates are the Gshock/Suunto crowd and when I say yes to the "is that a real Rolex" question I get the "How much did that cost you?" I really hate that question.

Ya "how much did that cost you?" Is probably the worst tackiest question someone can ask about your Rolex or anything for that matter IMO. When I was a kid I was always taught it was rude to ask or boast about the price of things

That's a good answer! I think I'll use it next time I'm asked. Do you charge much in royalties?

A Tudor ;-)
Normally I don't get any questions such as "How much was it" but rather "Nice I really like it."

I only wore my Sub a dozen times or so, and when people would inevitably ask about it, I would just respond "it's a Submariner." If they knew what that was, fine. If they didn't, they would just say "ohh."

Tomorrow, I have my Explorer II arriving, so I'm hoping it will attract a little less attention than the Sub.

Very rarely do I get someone actually ask me about my 16610, I was at the barber the other week and a guy did say that I had an awesome watch on. I said thanks and moved on. Most people who know me and know my tastes they know I'm not perpetrating a fraud in anything I have from my cars, to my guns and definitely my woman. Lol

I know, right? Everyone who has asked me about my watch has unabashedly asked me what it cost me. I'm like you. I don't ask those questions because people are entitled to do with their money what they wish. I am very close to the people I work with so I can cut them some slack but I still don't like the question.

i dont get any comments on my rolex it gives an aura of i dont know elitist or snob

i get comments from my planet ocean. "that's a nice watch what is it?" he said.

i replied "its an omega"

then by his facial expression got a little turned off. but he still said "i like it"

go figure.

I hate it too. It's a rude question that shows a lack of class by the person asking it. I usually respond with "How I spend my money is none of your concern." I think it's a polite response with a just little bit of force behind it.

I think it's silly to give any other answer than the correct answer. You shouldn't wear something if you can't look someone in the eyes and tell them what it is. If they ask how much it cost, well that's a different more personal question.

I can never understand post like this.

You wore your Sub about twelve times and you would inevitably get asked questions about it! I've worn Rolex watches, including Subs, for a few years now and I can only remember one person commenting on them. I know that attitudes vary in different countries but who are these people who always notice your watch and ask so many questions?

Straight forward is the best approach. Why be embarrassed? Also, what does it matter if someone thinks (just because of an answer) that someone is a snob, etc?

**
So, that's a nice watch. What kind is it?

- It's a Rolex Daytona

Wow, aren't those expensive? How much did it cost?

- Just shy of $12k (said matter of fact without much thought.)

**

It shouldn't be any different than if someone asks what kind of phone you have and how much it cost.
