'Swiss Made' dial concerns

Hi friends,

I'm looking at purchasing a 14060 from a private seller: the watch is an 'A' series from 1998. BUT! The dial is marked 'Swiss Made', rather than 'Swiss', which is what I thought it would have to be on a Submariner 14060 from 1998 as this was part of the transition from Tritium dials (marked 'Swiss T<25') and the current Luminova dials ('Swiss Made').

I asked the seller about this, specifically if the watch had been re-dialled. He has said that it is a "984 series" so may have had the "newer dial". I've been unable to find any information about this. Do any of the Rolex wizards here have any knowledge of this? Is this a genuine watch, and is the dial original? The seller seeeeems legitimate, but you never know ;)

Many thanks.

An A serial number Sub with Luminova dial would have SWISS MADE on it.

I have an A serial GMT 16710 with Swiss Made. AD warranty papers dated August 2000.

But other information on this forum suggests that A serial Rolexs with luminova would be marked 'Swiss' ?

As here: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=31836

Thanks for your reply!

"A" serials were made from ~97 through 2000 and so you will see these serials with any of the three dials, depending on when it left the factory.

It is mostly U and early A serials that bridge the Swiss Dial years, then A and P serials moved us into the 2000's

Yep, and just to add, my 'Swiss Made' A serial is a late A, being A89xxxx.

No problem - the Reference Library article you noted (authored by Larry) probably needs an update to add his comment as a footnote:

"A" serials were made from ~97 through 2000 and so you will see these serials with any of the three dials, depending on when it left the factory."

Picking exact years for when something appeared can be difficult at times...
