Luminor vs Luminor 1950's caseback

Am thinking about my next watch purchase being a Panerai and have been looking at the different styles.
It seems like (at least on this forum) that the more popular styles between the luminors are the 1950's caseback.
Is there a particular reason why? Do they hold there value better? Is it because they have in-house movement?
Appreciate any feedback.

Among Luminors, there's the Bettarini style (111/104/24), 1950s (312/305/382) and hybrid 1950s (372/422). Among Radiomir, you have the wire lug style and 1940s style (Luminor style lugs without crown guard), with varying thicknesses depending on the movement.

For the Luminors, a lot comes down to size, both diameter and thickness. You will find fans of each case based on fit and style, with certain models of each style being more popular than others. Personally, the Bettarini case, which is always 44, fits me best among the Luminors.

Pretty short and general overview. Best to go to a boutique or AD and try 'em all out.

Good luck and enjoy.

The 1950s case looks better due to the case styling and domed crystal, but they are thick. The historic cases probably wear a bit better being less thick.

Ok, so can someone explain to me the difference between a historic luminor 1950's case and a contemporary luminor 1950's case please.

Using your terms...

For a "historic" 1950s, find a profile pic of a 372.

For a "contemporary" 1950s, find a profile pic of a 312.
