They don't mix well. I have a Toyota Yaris Hybrid and have just worked out why my Omega SMP 300 and Seiko SARB033 are magnetised. Both have been in the boot of the car, which is where the batteries are stored and charged

It`s the motor and the wiring that causes the EMF, not the batteries though. Prius` used to be well known for high EMF readings in the boot

I have an RX 450h and I've had watches in the rear of the car close to where the batteries are with no issues whatsoever.

The only hybrid i think fits well with mechanical watches is the McLaren P1.

It has an electric engine...that produces 300BHP and can go for 10 miles.

Let me answer some questions that have been raised on other forums:

• Why were the watches in the boot/trunk? Wore the Seiko while going to pick-up a DJ from the jewelers and the Seiko travelled home in the boot. Same thing has happened with the SMP, plus the jeweler said he had a buyer for my SMP and it has been in the boot more than once for, as I have worked my way up from a Rolex Oyster Precision to my present DJ using the same jeweler.
• How do the batteries magnetize the watch? It is not the batteries per se, the batteries are being charged while the car is running, the electric motor and wiring create an EMF and it is this that magnetizes the watch
  Someone mentioned an RX 450h, this is a bigger car than the Yaris and both the passenger and driver are near to the electrical motor in the front of the car

Just for fun try this, take a compass and move it towards any of the following:

• Mobile/cell phone
• Wireless mouse
• Wireless keyboard
• Your computer, Mac’s produce a nice result

You will be surprised by which electrical products produce an EMF.

No reason not to believe you. A jeweler told me how a woman's watch was magnetized by the magnet on her purse so I'm sure the EMF in a hybrid could do damage. Should be a quick fix though. All of Omega's in house movements will have the 15,000+ antimagnetic movements in the near future so pick one up and never worry again.

I would like to see some test readings on these 'magnetic fields' as I am sure there are Standards that must be met.

Have been searching the net, the readings differ; higher when the engine is running and lower with just the ignition switched on.

Was given one link regarding the Prius, but think it is one of those dubious sites; read it here.

I think the problem is biggest when the vehicle is in motion, braking generates power to the batteries, the batteries are either being charged or helping power the car in conjunction with the engine and electric motor.
