18238 Day-Date

Greetings,

Relatively new here and I've enjoyed reading through the forums over the last couple of months.

I thought I'd share my 18238 Day-Date as it is; passed down from my father.

It has some after market attachments and I'm hoping to bring some of back to OEM (eg a fluted bezel).

I am however looking at some leather straps that I'm struggling to decide on.

Definitely more pics and please keep us update on your progress. As much as I love the modern watches, the DD is timeless.

Thanks all.

Hopefully this won't shock and upset anyone but I found a leather strap that would suit my day date.

I know it won't suit many people's taste and some may feel that I've detracted from it's original intention, however it suits me. I've never been a YG person and I just couldn't get used to the presidential band.

It's a Hirsch strap, and thin/flat croc leather. The older day-dates have a much slimmer profile that just didn't seem to suit a chubby strap seen on many watches.

I wonder, though, if brown would suit any better. I may think about swapping in and out a brown strap (though there are many shades of brown from reddish to barkish).

Thank you kindly for the welcome.

I hope this doesn't offend anyone but I've since found a leather strap that suits my tastes. Some might feel I've detracted from it's original condition, but it's just right for me. I've never been fond of YG and I just could not get used to the presidential bracelet. That being said, it was one of the most comfortable straps I've ever worn and it looked amazing on my wife's wrist when all YG.

It's a Hirsch Alligator Leather strap, thin, which I think compliments the older style thin casing of the 36mm DD (in comparison to many of the chubbier leather straps around). Of course this is all personal opinion.

The only thing I wonder though, is if a brown strap would look any nicer. However brown comes in many browns, from reddish to barkish and in-between, so it makes it slightly harder to choose the right tone for the YG watch.

Here's some pictures (next to my Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra). Perhaps I should have taken the photos an hour or 2 earlier, or later in the day.

If it works for you, that's all that matters.

Wear it and enjoy it. After all, variety is the spice of life.

Whether you go black or brown, you can always swap around.
