What is it about Panerai

That draws you to it?

Let me explain what I mean. I never used to like the look of them and Until last week I had never seen one but for some strange reason I've been drawn to them slowly over the past year.

Last week I went to Italy and found a small dealer in Verona that had a few Patek's Omega's and a dozen or so Panerai. If I was in a Rolex AD I could name nearly every one immediately but with Panerai I could even name one.

However I loved the look of two of them and tried them one. One turned out to be a 590 and the other a 005 (the strap on the 005 was a different one that normally comes with it - when they showed me the original strap I wasn't as keen as the one they had on).

The AD wouldn't do a deal on either but eventfully agreed to knock of €300 off the 005 and give me the strap that was one it (retail €320) - on a quick google of Prices it would have been the same as UK prices so I walked away. Firstly I figured I may get a deal at home and secondly was I just buying like being on a holiday romance???

Anyway back home nearly a week and can't get It out of my mind . . . . So what draws you to them? What do you think of the two that caught my eye?

They're just different. And huge and dramatic I guess.
Gotta go with those feelings when you have them.
Let us see the Incoming when you get it.

005 with the painted dial, logo and rock solid modified manual wind movement is a killer combo....the deal you were offered is pretty much what to expect with the more common (and in demand) pieces - one can sometimes get two additional straps, which you pretty much got with one free strap and €300 off. If anything, I would prefer your deal (and use the savings to get non-OEM straps with built in buckles (less to swap)).

I second Cru on this. I love my 005; I think it pretty well captures the brand and is really representative of the Pre-V period along with the 000. I have mine on the stock OEM strap but I also wear it on an OEM Ranger strap. I am thinking of going with the grey Micah shark strap at some point as well.

Personally I like buying watches on holiday, i like the 'romance' part and reminds you of that time in that place.

Great watches with lots of wrist presence. Can't wait to get my 217 back from service today from La Jolla boutique! Special shout out to my man Brandon Skinner for keeping a good eye on it for me! Also adding cool straps makes ownership a lot of fun as well as one can always change it up!

Resistance is futile

Both are very nice, but I would probably pick the 005 for all of the reasons stated above.

Hi guys

I've found my nearest AD and they are 100 miles away.

They have said they hold quite a large amount of stock but don't have a 005. They do have the 590, but I like the 005. They have said they have just in a 000 and a 111. Any thoughts on these two before I make the journey? Many thanks :-)

Stands out in n a crowd.

I like Panerai because of its uniqueness. The brand stands out in a crowd. And straps. A quick change of a strap gives you an entirely new look depending on your mood or occasion.
