The Hunt is Over: My New (used) Cellini

The bastard child of the Rolex line. Low resale value and no respect. Maybe the Rodney Dangerfield of the Rolex collection. Nevertheless I wanted a nice dress watch and I wanted to say the brand name when asked.

I bought this Cellini with mother of pearl dial on eBay for a good price. The waffle pattern on the dial blew me away. Since I don't know beans about the inner workings I'm taking it for a professional evaluation. Looks good to me so far. The strap is a little beat up but it is alligator so I'll wear it for some time. It also has an 18kt buckle.

That actually looks pretty good. Personally I couldn't care less what name is on the dial, but if it makes you happy that's all that maters.

The Hunt is Over: My New (used) Cellini

A Cellini is neither bastard nor disrespected. Now 41 years going strong, it's mater was Geneve and married to pater Rolex.
Looks like nice 5115 maybe 10 y.o. or less and should hold its value for quite a while. Good ones are about $5K and if you got it around that price, a good value.

Misunderstood perhaps, but that's only due to the loads of Oyster-cased adverts.

You have a beauty and by buying pre-owned theres little downside. :thumbs ups:

Congratulations!

Cellini has never gotten enough respect in my judgement.

Now, what used to be a diverse line has been pared down to three watches based on a single design.

It's a beautiful design, but a narrow line.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. It is a 5115, paid $2900 for it.

Yep, that's a good deal. I meant they were $5K when new but was typing too fast...

You should have watchmaker look at oils if it didn't come with a service history.

cellini's are criminally underappreciated. i'm not a dress watch guy, but i'd probably get a cellini over a dj anyday

Looks awesome, man! Congrats!

I'd buy a Cellini in a heartbeat, but I cant wear leather straps as I am a sweaty bastard.

Very understated.

I've always been an admirer of most Cellini's.

Congratulations

As a wearer of the Cellini Prince I salute a fellow Cellini owner. That's a lovely looking watch. I have long been surprised at the prejudice against these superb watches. For me, much of the 'other manufacturers do it better' line is deeply unconvincing. Look at the new Cellini line, in 18kt gold. Who else makes a watch of that quality for that sort of price?
When I bought the Prince, it was mainly because it is so different; rectangular, manual wind, open back, specially decorated movement. These days I just love wearing it in all sorts of situations.
