Seal issue with new (to me) Patek 5711

I just got a 5711 from a used dealer two weeks or so ago, have work it a hand full of times and this morning noticed that there is what looks like to be a clear thin seal that surrounds the crystal between it and the bezel has come loose/out. It looks like a thin piece of rubber string. I emailed the dealer as they include a 1 year warranty.

I've never heard of this issue and wanted to hear some feedback.

Thank you for your time and advice!

Interesting, one of those exploded case pics that shows all the components maybe the key here. Either way it needs service.

It looks light it might be a very thin layer of protective plastic on the very small exposed part of the inner bezel. If it comes away fairly freely and evenly when you pull it then I'd remove it and not worry about it. Otherwise I'd contact the seller in the first instance.

I just know that they coat AR out side of the glass. But a thin layer inside of the glass, I have never heard.

It s the crystal gasket i guess ,you need to bring it to an SC asap ,this seal/gasket protects the watch from dust/humidity .

Still, it is unbelievable that a watch which was a safe queen and nearly new has this issue. This would have never happened with Rolex, Vacheron, or AP...

It is going back to the seller to be repaired. Thankfully they offered a warranty on it.

I did misread, but that still doesnt take away from the fact that this kind of thing shouldnt be able to happen in the first place. (unless the dealer messed around with it but that would usually leave marks on the case as well which I do not notice.)

Yes, from European Watch Company in Boston, who has a sterling reputation.

The issue with the watch has to do with Patek Philippe, not the dealer who took it on trade without papers from the previous owner.

Yes which you said was in excellent condition. As you are just wearing this till the new 5711 comes in I wouldn't worry about doing anything and just hand it back to them when it arrives.

Yep, I wore it the afternoon prior and when putting it on the following morning it had popped. Perhaps I didn't notice it prior in its beginning stages but I doubt it given how much time I spend staring at the watch

I would be afraid of moisture or dust getting into the watch and casing damage. Better safe than sorry with something of this value, imo.

Albert at European Watch Company in Boston has been great to deal with. Have you called him as his guy can easily, and quickly, repair it. They repaired the 5167 i got from them when the lume on one of the numbers came out. Call Albert, he'll take care of it.

So basically it's a PP QC issue and no chance that a dealer who buys and then sells a watch without papers may actually have opened the watch up to see how it was working or doing a quick patch up to sell???

I doubt it, Albert has been great to do business with and has a perfect reputation as far as I can see.

He replied and is sending a UPS label for me to return the watch to be repaired.

Oh that's good news. Going through your threads you really have had bad luck buying bracelets missing links, watches on eBay and need a break
