1915 Nurse's WWI Rolex
I saw this and figured I knew just the person for it. As soon as I showed her the link she simply purchased it on the spot. So much for it being a surprise gift! But it is indeed quite beautiful.

That's a great watch, Robert! Is it a manual wind?
Um... who bought it? |

Yes, manual wind it is. My best friend got it and I am trying to get her to come to these boards. She loves following JJ's House. :-D

Nice. But what makes it a nurse's watch? It wouldn't be very practical for a nurse since it doesn't have a second hand.

On WWI watches, second hands were not that common, especially on women's watches. The face is porcelain.
Lisa, I am trying to get her to join! |

She wants to get a nurse's watch from every war. I missed out on a WWII watch. This can be an interesting collection!

Nice watch but,, back then nurses came to your room every few hours to take your pulse.
Wonder how that was possible with this particular rolex? Doesnt seem like the pulse would be accurate using the minute hand. Don |

It needs a replacement band and Rolex will not replace it unless the original clasp is sent in for exchange. Otherwise folks can simply remove the bands to use on fake watches. :-( So if anyone ever has an almost 100 year old band lying about.... Let me know!

1915
That is a very nice watch Robert
Your friend will not regret this purchase.. ![]() I was looking at mine and there are some distinctive differences between the prototype and the nurses watch which was already in production (some say since 1908). Although the movement seems the same, my case is not hinged but has a screw-in front and screw-in back...I guess Hans wanted an oyster type watch even back then, but as we know the oyster name came much later. So he called my watch the "dust proof" with metalic grill for crystal protection, observe the heart and tear drop shaped openings so you can tell time. Two Rolex watches from 1915 at TRF... can you imagine that..? ![]() |

I found the WWII Nurse's Rolex.
It is an early Christmas gift for my best friend who has the WWI model.

Great looking watch Robert, what a terrific gift. I like the circular perlage pattern on the plates/bridges in the movement. Thanks for sharing these pictures of such a fine example of a vintage Rolex.
