A 5712 Question

I see 5712's selling in the low 30s with the Tiffany's going in the high 40s. Which do the experts here see as being the better long-term investment? TIA

Low 30's. The Tiffany thing for Patek is a fad that comes and goes. It's not like vintage Rolex.

I was just on the patek floor in tiffany on 5th avenue in NYC over the wknd. I loved the added touch of the tiffany signed dials. Patek is pretty good about less being more when it comes to font on dials, so for the most part, no clutter adding tiffany & co.

They had no sports models, like every other AD, so even on the complications I thought it looked tastefully done.

$10k more though? Nah.

I dont know about future investment but I love my Tiffany stamp 5712/1A. Getting one at retail price will be the hard part though as the waiting lists are pretty huge I believe..

Thank you, I thought that might be the case as Tiffany is still marketing them.

One more question, I am used to Rolex subs where buying them is like money in the bank. Is this also true with the 5711s and 5712s?

I agree, the "Tiffany & Co" is understated and in no way detracts from the dial.

For me less printing on a watch dial, the better, not to mention a $10k upcharge for a retailer's name. The 5711 and 5712 models are holding value well, but most people will suggest not looking at watches as investments (with some super rare extremely limited editions being the possible exceptions).

Rolex has more demand than Patek for sure, I am thinking your "money in the bank" reference is because you are aware of that demand.
Rolex and Patek in general have good value retention. But it's more accurate to go by model.
5711 has greater demand than 5712 and keeps its value better as well but with 5712 you get more for your buck.
I wouldn't base my decision of go 5711 over 5712 just because you will be 2k better or so. I would base it for the one that will make you happier. Don't get me wrong 5712 keeps value pretty well too, is just a comparison. Like a Rolex Sub vs Daytona, kind of thing.
Good luck

tiffany on the dial doesnt increase value without full documentation in terms of rolex. cant speak as to if people will find tiffany dial patek's collectible years from now.

Thanks for the info, an increase in value is always nice, but not taking a big hit if I decided to sell is always a concern. As for less is more, if Patek were to come out with a no date 5711 I'd buy it in a New York minute.

Doubt you'd take a big hit buying 5711 or 5712 these days at retail or less. A no date Nautilus would be something different as Nautilus models have always had a date function going back to 1976 unless PP made some special ones that not too many people know about.

Me too. I chose the 5712 because of the arguably more interesting dial and the 240 cal. movement. The date window on the 5711 puts me off it a little. Both holding their value very well, choose the one you like the look of more.

Tiffany is a huge factor in the early success of Patek in the US. I kind of like the historical significance of that and think the Tiffany stamp is a nice touch.
