How would a nuclear blast affect an automatic watch?

No reason to wonder right now or anything. Just, you know, curious.

Caveat: I know nothing about nuclear explosions. Like, is there a magnetic effect? How does radiation affect metal? Who knows.

Assuming you are wearing the watch, that is the least of your problems!

You'd be dead so it wouldn't matter.

I mean...it probably depends on how close you are

In all seriousness, here's a photo of a wristwatch that went through the blast at Hiroshima

You could always head down to ground zero (or perhaps North Korea) with your Rolex and let the rest of us know.

A new "is it safe to wear my Rolex when..." thread. Yay. Is it safe to wear my Rolex in event of a nuclear explosion? What if the protective plastics are still in place?

That's nuts! A Rolex would hold up better than that.

Good chance it would be vaporized or at the least melted. That might affect performance.

Maybe if it was a platinum or gold watch, it might survive?
