Here one that is annoying
http://cgi.ebay.com/MENS-ROLEX-18K-W...d=p3286.c0.m14
An old old old watch that sounds like the second coming with the flowery language. I have bought a lot of stuff from this guy, but you have to really read between the lines to figure out what the danged thing is. he uses the term "genuine" over and over...even when he is describing an aftermarket braclet. note the last paragraph about the bracelet. Jeff This fellow is the number on seller of used Rolexes on ebay. Number one. |

This is an interesting sale with an aftermarket bracelet. It is just like the other one the auction house had for sale with the fake bracelet.

I've followed his his listings for a long time, and he REALLY toes the line of irresponsibility with his use of the word "genuine". Frankenwatches and fossils (no pun intended) are his speciality.

Similarly inconsistencies between 'genuine' and 'aftermarket'. At the very least the use of those words is confusing. Will this watch be accepted by Rolex U.S.A. for servicing? Because if Rolex will not, then isn't Rolex therefore saying it is no longer a Rolex?

Will Rolex service it with:
(a) aftermarket diamonds embedded in the case? (b) diamonds embedded in the bezel?

I just checked with Rolex Australia and they said that a case that has aftermarket diamonds added will be accepted, but Rolex will insist that the case be replaced as part of the service.
![]() Now that would be at a significant cost, and I think the purchaser might have a legal case against e-bay and the seller for failing to disclose this very relevant circumstance. This is especially so given that a substantial value is placed upon the diamonds embedded in the case. This aspect of non-disclosure about Rolex obliging the owner to replace the case and bezel, and dial upon a service is worthy of consideration by e-bay at the very least.

most definitely you are right about that steve.
if you ask me any seller who is selling rolex with aftermarket additions should have to state that the watch will either not be able to be serviced by rolex,or will have to be returned to its original state at their cost.... what do you guys think? |

I agree that these should have full disclosure of the potential to have Rolex not service it or, it will be serviced it at extreme cost to the buyer. I definitely have an issue with these. We were reporting a Powerseller in California for significantly altering the watch. He got very annoyed and went to E-bay Trust and Safety over our reports. I still stand behind the fact that this alteration stuff should have full disclosure. I have no problem with someone wanting to sell the watch if the parts are original and altered. This needs to be fully disclosed so that the potential buyer knows what they are getting in to.

Although it is hard to tell from the pics whether the band is an altered genuine, fake, or aftermarket (with no Rolex identifiers) I agree with the posts concerning the verbage of genuine, customized, refinished etc. It is very confusing. The word genuine applies to very little of the watch, except probably the movement.

It seems that the nature of the advertisement connotes a high possibility of a prospective purchaser buying due to his/her confusion as to this being a 'genuine' article that Rolex will stand behind.
I expect, if one was to buy this watch and take it to Rolex, they would be absolutely horrified at the the response they received from Rolex. A service, requiring a new case, bezel, bracelet and dial would easily cost over $10,000, and that would be the only basis Rolex would touch this watch ![]()

probably what he means by 'original' is the case and the mov't... what he refers to as 'genuine' are the diamonds mounted in the bezel, dial, lugs and the band.

The case might have at one time been 'original' but the after-market adaptation by the application of diamonds renders it incapable of being restored to 'original Rolex' factory specifications, so the expression 'original' in this context is ambiguous and may to some less well lead to some less experienced or informed prospective purchasers being seriously misleading.
