Need Opinion on 1993 GMT TT Black

I'm looking to jump into the GMT group with this watch. It is a 1993 TT GMT Master II on a Jubilee bracelet. There are no boxes or papers. I just had the opportunity to take a look at it, but did not have a chance to remove the bracelet to get the S/N, but I was told it is a 1993 model. I noticed the crown is wearing down and the Coronet is almost gone, in fact, you can see the secondary metal. The dial looks to be pristine and the bracelet has some stretch. One other area of concern is the GMT hand. There is definitely some discoloration (oxidation?) but no other major problems. Yes the bezel is a bit scratched but I can live with that. The Jubilee bracelet end pieces are marked 402B 50 and the clasp is marked 62523 H18 R 10. I'm assuming H18 refers to the 18k gold content in the links??

This watch has been offered to me for south of $4k Canadian as is, no service history, no boxes, no papers.

Let me know what you guys think. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I think $4K is too much for that piece. The crown guards are worn to the nub and the 24 hour hand is almost colorless. You'll need to get it serviced, and if you have it done by RSC, they will most likely replace the hands and crown; not sure about the case, though. You'have to figure $900 - 1100 for service at RSC is my guess (but I could be way out of the ball park).

Better pic of the Crown Guards

The photos of the watch were taken with the crown pulled. Here is a better pic of the crown guards...the crown is still pulled on this pic.

I dont believe I would go $4k personally. I know of 2, 1 with a nipple dial and in very good shape and 1 with newer dial in great shape, sold for $3500

The price is closer to $3000 US. The original price I suggested was in Canadian dollars.

BTW. What are peoples preferences when it comes to TT GMTs...Rootbeer, Black, GMT, GMT II... just want opinions on which ones are more desirable.

Thanks

I prefer the black TT watches... very classy look........

Your example has an awful lot of wear on the crown..... I wonder what could have caused that

The dial appears to be in very good shape and the look of the thick lugs might mean it has never been over-polished or brushed, some key pluses.

This one might have not been maintained as it could have been....the crown is a pretty standard replacement item at service time...

I would evaluate the condition of the bracelet closely as this would be the big ticket item to replace... If the bracelet is in good condition, I could be tempted to add it to the box.

Before you buy this one look on the Sales forum. Springer (John in Dallas) has one that is a complete package and with a rare factory Sub bracelet!!!!

It is much better deal in my opinion!

I prefer black. It's not to far ok at $3k. If you can get in for around $2750-2800 you should be ok

I agree here if its the watch you want. The bracelet is the key to the price.

I'd pay 3K for it, but I can refinish and replace the crown myself. If you have to send it out 3K may be a little high.

Replacing Crown / Refinishing Crown

I know how to replace a crown....but how do you refinish the gold on this one? Does anyone have a good source to buy an original Rolex Crown for the GMT?

Thanks

No B/P hurts the seller, but that is still a pretty nice watch. Get it checked out. If it checks out, the price is pretty fair, IMO.

You are mainly looking for excessive stretch in a Jubilee bracelet..

It manifests itself in wide gaps between the main outside links, and the ability to lay the bracelet flat and bend it laterally into an S shape..

You can also hold a watch with a stretched bracelet by the watch-head in front of your eye, perpendicular to the floor, and the bracelet will hang down noticeably.

The last photo showing the backside really doesn't look too bad...

thanks for the tips. I will go there later today and take some pics of the bracelet.

Btw what end link and clasp numbers should I be looking for. I noted some numbers in my first post but did not know / hear if they made sense for this vintage.

The markings on your bracelet seem to indicate that it is the original that went with the piece.

It should have 21 links.

If it has not been serviced in the last 5 yrs.......you have to provide allowances for that. And of course the crown replacement.

Looks like a very good buy!

Is the bracelet too stretched or still usable.

Thanks for your input.

That bracelet looks good to me.

Just enough stretch to be comfortable.

Thanks for the input. It felt great when I tried it on. It only had 20 links but there was enough adjustment on the clasp to make it fit comfortably.

Thanks for the input. I compared the bracelet to the one I have on my 1970's SS DJ and it had about the same stretch.

Does anyone have a pic of what the boxes and other items for this era watch would be.

Thanks
