Rolex supply/availability in Rio

I’m off to Rio in May and I’m wondering what the chances are of me getting lucky and finding a BLRO at an AD. A friend of mine has picked up an SD43 (just after it was released) and a white dialled Daytona from an AD in a Central American country with no purchase history, so it does happen.

I plan to err on the side of caution and won’t be taking any Rolexes (which is usually for me), however I do plan to take my Pam 797. It’s more inconspicuous with the brushed titanium case, brown dial and rubber strap or so I tell myself. I’ll probably only wear it during the day and go bare wristed at night.

If Rio is like anywhere else in the world at the moment, which I assume it is, any Rolex in demand will be difficult to get.

It probably will be the case or they’ll ask me to bundle it with a Day-Date with a diamond bezel.

4 weeks ago in Aruba I saw the best supply I’ve seen in years. Here’s a pic of just the sports models, they had more PM sports models around the store in the pedestal cases, and the YM I purchased in back so who knows what else was there.

I’ll keep my hopes up and give it a go. There’s no harm in trying. There are at least 4 ADs listed on the Rolex site and I plan to hit them all.

Any expensive watch in Rio, your a brave man...you defiantly increase your odds of a pick pocket at best, still low odds but it increases for sure!
hope you dont mind me saying this

Enjoy your trip!

As for your odds. Anything is possible; however, like every nook and cranny in the world... your chances are slim. It's not impossible, but highly unlikely.

If you are there, you might as well walk in and ask the AD. Asking random people on the forums the inventory level of another country isn't going to get your answers. And if there was a "secret sauce", it would have been long exploited.

Unlikely....price with exchange rate will be above UK “if” you can find one at an AD (which I doubt)
Then legally you need to declare upon entering the UK and pay 20% VAT.....

My advice is enjoy Rio, forget watches

Rolex supply/availability in Rio

Call the AD first before you travel. They always have some SS watches (maybe less buyers?) and will take your number and will communicate with you on WhatsApp. I’m
Brazilian and live in London. That’s where I get my Rolexes. Got really sick & tired of waiting for precious ADs in London to allow me to spend £8-10k a pop. And no snooty attitude either (ok, “some” people at the ADs in London are pleasant though).

If there’s a SS Rolex and you can buy it then it will be yours. Yes, 20% VAT if you declare (or more of you get caught).... but at least you get it from an AD.... São Paulo normally has a bit more stock though as there are way more ADs. 40 min flight from Rio.

SP also has some really amazing restaurants and night life.... go to Vila Madalena in São Paulo - brilliant place for a night out! I’m sure Rio will be great too.

Most visits to Brazil are trouble free. You’ll be fine. Enjoy!!

I would expect it will be the same result as any or their country in the world?

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll reach out to the various ADs in Rio. I had no plans to visit São Paulo on this trip, however if there’s a chance I could pick up a BLRO, I’ll definitely be willing to hop on a flight for a day.

Just realised I said “I don’t usually take my Rolexes with me on trips” which is completely incorrect. My Rolexes usually go with me everywhere, across Europe, Africa, Asia and North America. I think it might be a stretch too far taking one to Brazil given I don’t know the terrain. I’ll probably get there and see loads of people wearing Rolexes, but I’ll at least have my Pam to keep me company.
