Occup question by AD

Did anyone get ask their occupation when shopping to gauge buying power or reason for buying?

What if they were sincere and truly were curious without other intentions? AD’s are people too.

Wear an expensive watch or try a different dealer.

No, but it has come up over the course of regular interaction with my SA. I don’t recall ever being interrogated, even subtly.

I was asked of that twice in recent visits. It came in general conversation so I didn't think anything of it. Meanwhile, I have noticed that their attitude remains unpleasant when they can't see what you're wearing or wearing something that isn't a name brand.

Of course. Part of being a good salesperson is understanding your customer. They are going to vet and qualify you first. Even if you tell them what you do, they will still check your social media profiles (FB, LinkedIn, IG, Twitter, etc.) to verify your story. All part of the background check.

My AD has known for years already. We’re quite friendly and talk often.

I wish they would ask me on my visits, but they are too busy looking at my left wrist and vetting me the old fashioned way... by which watch I'm wearing that day. I'll admit I love going out of my way to tell them I'm a mailman, especially on days I'm wearing my white dial 116520. Old saying in sales, never prejudge or prequalify a customer, no matter what your selling.

Not really been qualified that way. Maybe they just see a guy in jeans and a Tshirt and think I'm trying to hide my money. hehee. I'm sure they see my watch though.

I've been screened by them asking me both my occupation and if I was buying the watch for a life milestone or some other occasion. I don't mind the questions and in two cases it's resulted in free Rolex magazines/catalogs. So it's actually been a beneficial thing.

Yes. My AD knows because I'm friendly with the mayor of the city and he vouched for me, and I've had cases with the mayor.

Plus when I became partner my Pepsi watch was also in celebration of that, along with Father's day.

My SA knows what I do for a living, it’s come up in conversation in the 20+ years of knowing each other.

Check social media? Ay ay ay.....what is the world coming to? Be nice to me. I'll be nice to you. If you can get me a product I like, I'll buy it. Why isn't that enough anymore?

Does removing a golf ball from a whale's blowhole count?
