Who’s Buying Now (Part 3)....

So over the last 6 months I posted part 1 and 2, with varied responses. I feel this country (US) and world is now in another dimension. According to reports in the WSJ today some limited lockdowns are ordered across Europe (France and Germany). The US stock market is on track for its worst week since late March of this year. Looks like the Coronavirus is not going away anytime soon.

So is this putting the brakes on your purchasing a new watch. If your AD calls with the watch you want, do you buy or pass for now?

Bought 2 this year, buying the next in 2021. No change.

Doesn’t change my plans currently. Bought one pre-Covid, two during-Covid. All the rest of my money for this year is aimed at other targets. Now, if I was offered a Blue Skydweller at retail, I’d make it happen.

If this was my only Rolex purchase for the year or longer, then I'd buy without hesitation. If we're talking 2nd or 3rd watch in 2020... I take a pass (this time) and let my SA know to stay in touch in 2021. Focus on diversifying assets and allocate capital elsewhere. Of course this REALLY depends on your financial situation. Inflation coming... prices will only rise IMHO. So yeah, maybe no change of plan and keep buying. Depends on your watch goals :)

It's a fact, we are not done with the Coronavirus.
Sales of luxury items, which are therefore not necessarily useful, are more complicated. But finally there are enough for whom it does not change anything, the proof with the negotiations of those out of production and full waiting lists for news !

I still think a lot of people are more cautious about spending...

Wake me up with the thread - Who's selling now?

Both the watch and stock market crash is long-overdue.

If my AD calls with the watch I want, I'm buying it. No questions asked.

That said, I'm at the place where if one comes in, one's leaving, so...probably not the best guy to ask this question.

I purchased three new Rolex this year. I’m happy with my currently purchase and I do not intended to purchase another unless my AD calls me with a Pepsi. All other watch purchased will be pushed back until next year. Me pushing those purchases back has nothing to do with Covid, I’m in the market for a new home.

I never pass on a watch I asked my AD for.
So still patiently waiting for my Pepsi to arrive.
Should've been here already, but guess it takes a bit longer because of the shutdown.

Just picked up 1 on my list. My AD knows of a few more that I’m waiting for. I won’t pass if/when they’re available.

Always darkest before the dawn.

20+ vaccines under development with promising early results re antibodies
Very promising therapies (treatments) being authorized
Most businesses that have returned people to work show very few infections
Masks clearly work if folks wear them

My purchase decisions are unchanged.

The wealthy have done exceptionally well during the pandemic and are buying luxury goods in droves. Expect more of the same.

Stock market and economic fluctuations only really affect the working class who don't buy Rolex generally. The pandemic affected working class brand watches much more so; Seiko, Swatch group and such.

I am waiting another week to make a decision to buy another watch. This month has been good to me so far with a new Sub, OP 41, and CHNR and still trying to find a certain SS DJ41.

When the Rolex I have on order turns up I will buy it. I have no idea when that will happen. The money is set aside.

I also want to rationalise my collection and will be looking to sell two watches and buy one to replace both. No Rolex watches involved in this one. This is low priority and is in a queue behind other needs, commitments and wants going into 2021. I will get to it at some point.

My behaviour hasn't changed this year as far as luxury goods are concerned. Many other things have changed.

I've bought two AP's this year (June/Sept). If PP values go back to retail I'll be buying
We're putting a covered area on the back of the house in a couple weeks so writing that check will probably cap 2020's buying activities.
In reality - with two kids under 3 I'm probably done for a little while. Luckily the PP's will stay high

Based on the current market conditions, Covid has been a non factor in terms of deterring watch purchases.

The people most unfortunately affected by economic fallout are not in the market for luxury timepieces.

I'm on the list for the pepsi (I'm #7 apparently) at one AD and have the Turquoise OP41 on order at another AD.

If I get the call for both, I'm going to get both.

Same boat here

I’m definitely looking harder at what I want to add and not bloating out

Unchanged. I know what I want. I know what I’m willing to pay (pretty much MSRP). I hate selling to buy so I do need to always consider how frequent I purchase as to not be irresponsible. But if ya get the call. It sure is hard to say no. Oddly the two that I’ve picked up during 2020 were not really on my “list” but sort of impulse buys. So that happens now and again also.
