Hopefully this helps alleviate some phobias related to polishing. Especially when only performed with routine interval servicing.

Awesome video. Outside of seeing how much gold is really lost, it was cool to see how the actual polishing is done.

You're welcome, I saw it on my YouTube feed and figured this is the perfect place to share it. I wish they could suck up all the gold and make a little gold bar out of it to keep!

$37.63 total loss for the way it looks after polishing? LOL.. No brainer, if you are trying to sell it... Greys will do this all day every day and still get a premium.

Very cool video. I knew it wouldn't be too much, but it was actually a bit more than I expected (I was thinking it would be VERY minimal, like $5 worth). Still, good to know and should alleviate some fears about polishing. Polishing a smaller watch than a YMII will obviously lead to even less loss (not % wise but absolute dollar value wise).

They should do this same video for platinum! I’m sure it will be quite a bit more $ lost! :-p

I saw in one video that platinum is so hard, that when polishing, you just move atoms around and not actually lose any....not sure how true that is!

Hence the :-p in my post. I’m like 99.9% sure that is an accurate statement. You don’t lose platinum when polishing.

And where does it all go? (The gold in the wheels and drain filters)
Yep right into the bag and to the reclaimers. Reclaiming precious metal waste is a cornerstone of a workshop’s routine. Now maybe some can see how so many overpolished gold watches are popping up. The shop is paid twice... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Interesting. I always thought material was moved more than lost when polishing, so even at $37 I'm a little surprised.

Platinum jewelry is also near pure platinum vs. gold jewelry, which is a far lower percentage "pure" gold.

And there are still people who will say "scratches add character" and "I will never polish my modern sub cuz it will appreciate in value"

Goes to show if polished correctly the amount of metal removed is negligible
