5146r vs. 5327r

I have the 5146r. My AD is offering me a great deal on a new 5327r. To get the latter, I would have to trade in the former (and then some). Logic says get the PC, grand complication! But the AC is such a gem and I have come to adore it. I will do a side by side wrist check next week but until then I would appreciate any words of wisdom from this learned group.

I previously owned the 5146R and now the 5327R. The 5327R is more slim because it is using a micro rotor. And of course it is a PC and a Grand Complication. I did not keep my 5146R because I have too many AC at one stage with the 5205G and 5726, and I know I will eventually buy the 5327R. That said, I notice the 5327R is not the most popular watch here at TRF as there are people who don't like the breguets with the 3 sub-dials as they said this made the dial very busy. However, it doesn't bother me and I like those beautiful breguets especially when light is reflected off them. They look exquisite and kind of elevate the whole esthetics of the watch to me. Before I bought the 5327R, I have also considered the 5940, 5320, 5140, Langematik PC and the FPJ QP but I'm most drawn to the dial of the 5327R, although they are all great choices.

Sounds good if you are getting a great deal from your AD. I love my 5327R very much. Good luck with your choice!

thank you michael for your response and pictures. very helpful given you have been down this road! your points are noted and I agree with your assessment. I think having both references available to do a side by side comparison will be key.

No personal experience other than trying both on: I really like the 5327 and would choose it over 5146.

One of the main criticisms on the 5327 is that the movement is too small for the case (5140 was 37mm with the same base caliber) and they tried to hide that with the breguets, to fill up space, thus making the dial busy. Only you can decide if that bothers you.

A patek QP is always a special piece, imo. The ACs have the charm of being a complication created by PP, so that is something to consider as well.

Tough to go wrong with either one. I'd say it would depend on how good the deal you're getting is. Good luck deciding, OP.

thanks for the input. share your opinion re size of movement but it i do like the micro rotor as it affords more of a view. one could wait for a movement to be "right sized" but who knows when that will be!

Both are great. The 5146 is more casual, so if this is a watch you wear often, then the 5146 may be a better fit. The 5327 is very well done. The case vs. movement size doesn't bother me. The 5146 itself has a movement too small, shown by the slightly crowded subdials at 9 and 3. The cost differential is surely very high to jump from AC to PC.

The 5146 is definitely more casual than the 5327 which suits my current lifestyle better. this may be the ultimate deciding factor. thanks for your input.

I love my 5327 G . I agree with all Michael said. Also to get a substantial discount from list makes it even more appealing. Me thinks it’s a sleeper and one of the best values in the marketplace today.I love the cylinder winder mine came with although I didn’t get a traditional wood box w it too.Bought mine from a grey ( new old stock) Like the white gold stylus too. The timepiece is just nothing but subtle elegance. Wish you the best, james in San Antonio Tx

I feel the 5146 is a more every day wearer, more casual, easier to read AC. Love it. 5327 is more elegant formal wearer. Two very different watches.

thanks for the input and pics. it is a gorgeous piece! the 5327 is certainly has more calatrava formality than the 5146 which could limit my wrist time as i don't dress up much anymore. (i have just started checking out the 5320G, just when i thought i was coming to a decision, haha).

also, i just realized there is no seconds sweep on the 5327. i think i would miss that. cool winder, btw.
