GMT-Master Help needed!
So, a couple months ago I turned 17 (seems a little out of place for a Rolex, no?) and I got a Rolex for my birthday. The watch itself was my grandfather's watch before he passed away a few years ago, and my father thought it the appropriate time to pass something of this significance on to me. Being a tad inquisitive, I tried to do a little background research on the watch, between asking my dad and checking on the internet. I found out all the basics about the GMT with the dial and such. However, the dial on the watch I have does not turn at all. My dad insists that it has always been as such, however, everything I've read about the GMT seems to contradict this. The watch itself is quite old (purchased in 1965 I believe), and has been fully rebuilt at least once. Another thing is that my dad says that it's a special military edition of the GMT, made to show military time only, however, that doesn't make much sense since the GMT was originally a pilot's watch. Here's a relatively bad photo of the watch (taken on a cell phone since I can't find a camera at the moment).

I think that your watch is a Rolex 1675 GMT.
The luminous material on the dial will have lost it's glowing power as it only lasts for approximately 13 years. However, you really need to work on your focus on your photographs because looking at that photograph makes my eyes hurt, and is not very useful. ![]()

The GMT masters all had rotating bezels.
I have checked my Vintage Sports Rolex book and it does not have any example of a GMT with a fixed bezel. Take off the bracelet on the 12 O'clock end and you will find the model number. At the 6 O'clock end you will find the serial number. If you put these on line we can tell you more about this watch. ONE MORE THING, PLEASE REDUCE THE SIZE OF THE PHOTO. IT'S MUCH TOO BIG AND TAKES A LONG TIME TO OPEN. AND I HAVE A 100MEG. FIBRE CONNECTION. |

Yeah, I was going to say look up your numbers and do a little research. Firstly is the terminology - watch bezels rotate NOT dials. It may just need a good cleaning and a new click spring. Your bezel will tend to get stiff if not thoroughly cleaned after swimming in salt water etc...

take it to a watchmaker, they know how to clean it and they have this tool for the bezel to rotate it.
