Second Dial Swap Completed
So the second watch dial swap was completed today....
The first initial shock, -the installed dial hands were wrong! and they had no lume, where the dial had lume marks. I have seen this before in pre-owned watches and always wondered how could this happen. Well, maybe it has happened to others due to a mistake in parts. Thankfully, they corrected the mistake and replaced the dial hands with the correct ones with lume. The watch came out pretty amazing and i like how it changes color hue according to the light. From black to dark grey to sunburst blue to green etc... I am very happy and it has been transformed to a more everyday piece, than it was with the old diamond dial.. Enjoy.

First of all the blue dial version of an 18238 was always a rare combination. The watch looks beautiful. That was a great selection since I know you were discussing black and white dials as a replacement to the diamond dial. Where you able to get an original Rolex dial and did RSC do all the work for you?

Beautiful. By far one of my favorite DD combinations. In my opinion it doesn’t get much better than the blue and gold combo. Very nice and congrats on the completion of the dial swap.

Thank you guys !!!
@Rado63 Yes its an Original Rolex dial and RSC did all the work on the watch. I did not know the blue was a rare combination. There are actually 2 blue versions for this watch. The one i got (sunburst) and a darker blue (blue/black), which is flat - no sunburst. I debated black in my mind also. In the beginning the Onyx Black and then the Black Stick dial, like the one i got, but in black. Did not know if the Black Stick Dial is Glossy or matte. I hope i made the right choice. The blue dial ''has many faces''. The black is more contrast.

Did RSC provide this lume dial/hands? I’m curious about what they provide for these DDs nowadays - Do you know what the lume is? Is it live/active? Also FYI (and just in the interest of pedantry), there were several blue dials offered on 5-digit DDs - Mosaic/shantung, lapis lazuli, 2 or 3 shades of blue Stellas, vignette, a textured-matte “blue jean” dial, etc. |

Hi yes everything from RSC. Lume is superluminova. They put by mistake hands without lume and they replaced them once i explained to them the mistake. I was talking about two versions of blue plain dials, excluding all other blue variations. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Looks great. Just a question, if you service at Rolex, do they allow mods like that?

Yes, hands are lumed and yes they allow to do a dial swap as long as it was available for the watch reference you own. It’s not a mod , it’s a dial change.

So if RSC will do a dial swap, it makes no sense that the Turquoise dial Oyster Perpetual commands such a high premium on the grey market over a silver or black dial Oyster Perpetual. They all have the same reference number.

A. Some dials might not be available for old references. B. Rolex has an exclusion policy for latest references -at least for now, or as long as they are considered ''latest'', and they won't swap or change a dial for you. e.g Ceramic Daytona from Black to white. Good thing is i got to keep the dials from both watches i changed and intent to sell them in the near future.

Dilinger,
I'm glad you got the dial and hands swapped. I hope the blue sunburst makes you happy. Yes, there is a change in the hue dependent on lighting. Sometimes it gets a Dark Blue-Grey like the underbelly of the leading edge of a September Cold Front. I love my Blue 18038 and I'm glad you are enjoying the Blue Dial on your 18238... and yes, the blue dial is much more "everyday" than the Champagne with Diamonds. I think you made the right choice, but I'm biased. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I was also considering the same dial - Black with Sticks- but i felt it would always be black... The different faces of blue are amazing..

RSC will definitely allow you to swap dials in current models.
I was quoted roughly $500 for dial and $200 for labor on a DJ41 dial swap. Also, they do not allow you to keep the original dial as they view the $500 price tag as a discounted amount because they are keeping the original dial. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
