114060 owner now has to admit - the news Subs are superior

Had a chance to visit my local AD today for the first time since they got their wonderful “display models.” Tried on the new date Sub. Wears a lot better than my 114060 does. Wider bracelet didn’t bother me at all, and didn’t really find there to be a huge difference in the clasp. Also tried on the black/blue GMT on oyster and really liked it. So much so I registered my interest for one. If my guy comes through for me I’ll probably just move the 114060 out. Was very excited to get it back in 2019 but if I’m being honest with myself I like the fit of the GMTs (and new Subs) much better. Anyway, just one goof’s opinion.

I agree the newer Sub wears slightly better, but the last gen's supercase's fat lugs are growing on me, no pun intended. One of those charms that comes with a discontinued watch I guess.

Basically the mid 2000s to the mid 2010s was the heyday of monster sized watches, and this gen was obviously Rolex's attempt to capitalize on that trend without reworking the Sub too much.

I'm totally speculating here of course, but I think the large watch trend was a fad that won't come back in a meaningful way in my lifetime. As such I kinda like your Sub as representing that era of watches. It's already more interesting to me from a visual standpoint than the 5 digits that preceded it and the new Sub. But again, I'm probably in the minority.

I also sort of appreciate the brick on a skinny bracelet look of the previous generation. However, I can understand why Rolex changed it and why someone would prefer the new one, especially if it was an only watch or one that got the most wrist time.

I do agree the new sub's proportions are better. My 126613LN fell foul of the 32xx issue. If I were you I'd stick with the bulletproof 114060.

Oh yea, absolutely. I think objectively the newer ones look better. I just think the last gen has more "charm", for lack of a better word.

If my only or primary watch, I'd rather have the current gen. But if part of even a small collection that features at least 2 diver watches, I'd dare say I'd like to have the last gen as it already stands out a bit and feels a tad more interesting. But again, that's just me.

Thanks for that report OP. Tried on a new Get a while back and agree they do feel great on the wrist. Was not able to try on a new sub. Former 114060 owner here and wondered how the new ones compared. Can't wait to try on on.

Oh, forgot to mention - I also tried on the new Explorer 36. Let me just say, there's absolutely no way I would forego my 214270 for the 36.

This is definitely a consideration. I’ve been in no hurry to move on from my 31xx series movements.

Ha! I'm still complaining that the 114060 and 214270 replaced the 14060M and 114270, respectively. Haven't even had time to complain much about the newest ones, yet.

Crying shame they cut costs and screwed up the 32-series movements. My 3130 has been insanely accurate from day one and remains so nearly five years later.

Also, while I certainly don't mind the 12 series aesthetically, I personally still prefer the look and dimensions of the 11's. But then I freely admit I'm a die hard 11 series / 31xx fan.

I tried the new Sub for the first time last week at the boutique. I brought my 116610 along to compare. Contrary to what I’ve been hearing about the new Sub; the SA and I both thought the 116 looked smaller visually. I think the 116 is beautiful on the wrist and in person but it’s not as photogenic as the new 126 ref.
