Traveling with Panerai
Plenty of threads on "is it safe to travel with my Rolex, Patek, AP?" but didn't see one for Panerai. Thoughts? I'm going to Mexico, Spain and Paris later this year and considering bringing mine.

Personally I like to travel wearing one nice watch. It’s definitely part of the fun of ownership for me. YMMV.
I wore my PAM 690 to Italy several times. ![]() |

Any time i travel, i just wear my 422.
Most Pams you see about in the wild are fake, so i run under the theory, as badly dressed as I am, I probably look like the kind of guy that shops on Ali-express. |

I have different Panerai and never once an issue. I traveled to Italy, once with a 024 and another time with a 88 GMT. Never an issue. The nice thing is that I brought multiple straps and had a watch that would suit all occasions while traveling.

Just don’t bring it to shady areas. Though wearing it in travel makes people turn heads

I personally would choose a G-Shock for travel. Cheap, reliable, and worry free.

Interesting question. I am from Europe/Germany and i don´t know why it should be more dangerous to wear a PAM in an european city than in an american?
Every bigger city has its problem districts but i assume that´s the same over the ocean and if you plan to visit some place like the Frankfurt "Bahnhofsviertel" it should generally a good idea to keep attention ![]() Sorry, don´t know the english word but its the place around the main train station in Frankfurt/Main where the drug scene is very present. |

It’s more about where you will be going while in that country. If you are staying inside a resort the whole time you’re probably ok. If you plan to visit many places and take public transportation then that’s a different story.

The problem is a G-Shock is more popular and identifiable than a Panerai..........no one knows what a Paneria is. Wear it without a care in the world

To me, the answer is always depends.
To me, I would wear a a watch that the original question won't even come to my mind. I would much rather enjoy the vacation than to think about if a watch is ok to wear at certain time, or in certain part of the city. Having said that, get a Grand Seiko / Casio MRG. Those are exceptional watches that nobody else would give a flyin' F to. You can feel and see the quality on your wrist, but not necessarily flashy.

Traveling with your luxury watch like Panerai can put you in harms way, depending on the place you are traveling to.

you can possibly get mugged/snatched at night, walking alone in a secluded street or pedestrian overpass. and probably the victim would be the shoulder bag of a woman |

I travelled to South Africa and Mauritius with mine. It was an excellent travel companion. Was with me hiking Table Mountain (by accident, actually meant to put my Apple Watch on), ATVing in Mauritius (which certainly tested rattling / shock), and swimming in the ocean.

I was mugged in Barcelona wearing a PAM. It was some younger kids so they just tried to stop us with a young kid with a Lime scooter cutting us off our path (almost like he lost control), then another larger older boy came up behind me and grabbed my wrist and tried to unbuckle my watch thinking it was a clasp. It was buckled down nicely with a strap.... I pulled away and fell, and they ran off. I would not wear anything of value if you are just cruising around on foot either in crowded or non crowded areas (both have risks) and reserve your nice watches maybe for the evening out at Dinner or places you are not in general public very much.
Heading to Japan and Korea later next month and probably will bring a good watch. Less risk there, but still will wear a cheap watch or Samsung when touring the streets during the day. |

For the most part, it's the area your in and situational awareness. Your wallet isn't any safer than your watch, lol. Personally, I wouldn't travel to Mexico for anything!
