Gold vs Stainless

After wearing stainless Submariners, Sea Dwellers I am finally brave and lucky enough to wear a WG Sub as a daily.
I find the wear is more of a swirling of scratches on the gold vs individual small scratches on the steel

Not to be ocd but I think I prefer the gold version
Of course the pcl on the gold is different from the brushed stainless.

Anyone have similar experiences?

I wear PM watches daily. They scratch as much as steel is my experience after wearing both for many years.
Difference is polished versus brushed

Anything scratching gold will also scratch steel. Touching a brick wall or the household dust containing mostly fine sand particles which are the cause of very fine scratches.

The older I get the less I can see the scratches. I made peace with it a long time ago. Wear and enjoy.

+1

As I get older I realize how taxing modern Rolex watches can be on the wrist. Having recently bought a 14270 Explorer 1, the (lack of) weight in Rolex of old wears much more comfortable IMO. Wouldn't enjoy wearing super case solid gold every day.

I prefer wearing the gold Submariner, GMT Master, or Daytona over their stainless versions any day. White gold helps make that easier. I love the way the gold watch feels on the wrist as compared to the stainless model.

I always preferred gold to steel. Most of my steel timepieces still look very new.

I like steel for daily wear as I own a family entertainment center so am sticking my hands in machines from time to time but if it wasn't for that Id wear PM all the time.
I bought a YG DD 40 last year for my 50th and love it! The next PM will likely be a Plat DD 40 Ice Blue sticks (but diamonds are tempting as they kinda blend in with the dial).

Wrong. 18k gold and steel have different hardness. Any material that is above gold but below SS on a hardness scale will scratch the gold but not the steel.

Yes gold is heavy and softer than steel it also conducts hot/cold air and water right to the wrist, wearing an all gold pice is wild. Day to day I prefer SS

Gold is amazing on the wrist, and once you start getting comfortable with PM, you will find it hard to go back to SS.

Had a steel Sub for years. Loved it. But I never looked at the steel to admire its beauty. The visual attraction was all in the dial and ceramic bezel.

Now daily a gold Daytona. Dial's still gorgeous, but now so also is the gold bezel, case and bracelet. Even the clasp's mesmeric. The whole thing's just ... a feast for the eyes.

Gold is emotional and not driven by practicality.

Once i went over from steel to WG it ruined steel watches for me! I wear my GMT meteorite daily and I see little difference in wear.

Sure thing, but isn’t it so for any Rolex ?
It’s hard to rationalize but I feel emotionally attached to my watches whilst they are nothing but a dead piece of steel.

Steel is significantly harder and more more scratch resistant than 18kt gold.

That's a simple fact of the materials in question.

To say anything that scratches gold will aslo scratch steel is wrong.

Anything that scratches steel will of course also scratch gold.

Yes

Rolex 18kt will show swirl marks from contact with clothing in general wear, and regular cleaning with anything other than the softest brush will do the same. As will wiping down without washing. Its much softer than stainless steel.

You won't see as much swirling on the steel from similar wearing and cleaning
