How long after purchase did you have to first service your watch?

My 116710LN needed to be serviced right at the 4 year mark. I wore the watch everyday for 4 years. You could hear the rotor moving around and it started to stop when I look it off for the night. The watch was bought brand new from Tourneau in NYC and serviced under warranty. What have others experienced?

2017 Submariner 114060 right around Christmas of last year.

I’m going to throw my dear wife under the bus for that one … somehow, she buggered the threads on the screw down crown system.

Then about a week later, the same thing happened to her Date.

Now I’m in charge of all the winding

Well in over 50 years of owning and wearing Rolex watches never had to send any in for service except for normal routine service.

My 124060 Sub from 2021 went in for a service at the end of 2023, which was down to the low amplitude issue experienced by some 32** series movements.

For routine servicing, I will send it to RSC in 2033, which is at the 10 year mark from the warranty service.

Well consider yourself lucky, as I had to send one in for a warranty repair after owning for just over 2 years.

216570. Six years after purchasing it new from my AD.

Mainspring failure.

Full service.

And a nice leather pouch.

Plus warranty repairs (not servicing) on a Z Blue and 116613LB. Both mainspring failures.

In about twenty-six years I’ve never had a Rolex serviced; one I shamefully neglected for eighteen years but it ran perfectly up until catastrophic saltwater intrusion, the others were purchased new or CPO and rotated in and out based on whimsey, none having hit their recommended service interval. Given my age and the fact that the watches I own are all keepers they’ll all hit that interval once before I croak and will each require a service so I still have a Rolex experience to look forward to.

Anywhere from immediately after delivery to 17 years, and it is still going strong.

I had to send a 124060 in for a bracelet failure after 4 years. No issues with my daydate in 5 years or ownership. Also have a 10+ year old datejust 2 that has never been serviced.

It was a full service to correct the -20 seconds per day deviation from spec. It’s been perfect since.

11 series sub date from 2016, it's currently in for its first service. Losing a bit of power in the reserve, minor nick in the crystal, and the stem wasn't popping out the whole way to set the time/date. Just getting a jump on the 10 year that I would have done anyway with the oils and such.

My 14060 Submariner was first serviced in 2009, after wearing it every day for 13 years. Nothing wrong at all, I just thought it deserved a full service! The second full service was 10 years later in 2019. This time it was necessary, as it was suddenly losing a huge amount each day and continually stopping. I think the mainspring was replaced. It´s been running perfectly ever since, and my AD pressure-tests it every year for free.

For routine service? When it breaks.

Unfortunately I’ve broken crystals multiple times, so that’s been the extent of abnormal service.

I daily wear my BB58 since 2018 except 4/6 per year, it was never serviced. Past the 5 years mark I began to have the water resistance tested annually. I think I'll get it serviced around the 10 years mark if everything is still fine until then.

My DD lasted 25 years and it was not even acting up, got it serviced mostly for the polish. My 11 series sub already running almost a decade spot on.
The newer ones are pretty bad, my GMT and SkyD are both running too slow.
I keep wearing them until they stop by themselves, don’t care much for a few minutes per week off.

It's always been typical for me to have to service a daily wearer automatic(worn approximately 16 hrs per day) at about the 5 - 5.5 year mark.
With regard to the trigger for service, the trend has mostly been with regard to the self winding function. Especially with my Rolex watches but it's by no means limited to Rolex.
The last one was the same which incured an extra cost for parts over and above the standard service cost.

I'm happy with this timeframe because it's within the range that was unofficially recommended by Rolex for many years as being in the 5 - 7 year range.
The traditional Rolex jewelled slipper bearing arrangement has it's flaws and it's upsides and i'm very comfortable with that feature in my Rolex watches even it it may trigger a service sooner rather than later as there are potentially other things with regard to a wrist watch that do need to be attended to as a matter of good practice

Agree the main Achilles heel in most of the Rolex 31 series movements like the cal 3135 cal 3185/6 is the rotor shaft bearings. and IMHO it was the 31 series movements weakest link the rotor winding sleeve bearings. Now these needed proper lubrication and its very critical its done right, if it dries out especially in warm climates you will get severe wear in the bearing jewels. Looks like to me Rolex had sacrificed a bit in the engineering department for better winding efficiency. IMHO the small diameter winding post don't offer enough support to the rotor weight, but again some go on for decades without service, but many failed for the lack of it.

My only service so far was for my Submariner. Bought in 2o16, almost 5 years later the hacking system broke and so it received the full service (without polish).

Explorer purchased in 2013 and GMT purchased in 2017, neither have been serviced yet and both seem to be keeping good time although I don't measure them to the second.

About 15 years and even then the watch didn’t need a routine service.

I typically do not need to service as I have so many watches they do not get a lot wrist time. On occasion I will need to service but not enough to identify a pattern.

I needed to service a 114060 after 7 years due to a mainspring failure. I brought my 16600 in for service after 15 years but it was running generally fine.

Four years seems early—my Sub went 8 before needing service. That rotor noise would’ve bugged me too though. Good thing warranty covered it!
