Golfing in the Boston and Providence RI area

Hey gang, I am trying to lock up some tee times for myself with my teenage son for the first week of July. My daughter is bringing us once again to Providence Rhode Island for Dance Nationals. We are there for about a week. There is only so much dance my son and I can handle. So, while we are there, we thought of some golf, we will bring our own clubs. Does anyone here recommend a venue or two? We would love to try out a few different courses. Thanks, everyone!!

I’ve played TPC Boston and it is a terrific course.

It is located in Norton, Massachusetts, which is closer to Providence, RI than downtown Boston. That may be a plus depending on where you are staying.

You would definitely need an “ in “ though because it is a private club.

Perhaps talk to your own club professional to check if there is any reciprocity ?

My BIL was my connection but he retired from the TPC when he retired from the bench.

All the best,
T

In RI, Newport National is a great track and Newport itself is a great spot to hang out. Granite Links outside of Boston is a fun track although there are some quirky holes. Great view of Boston and the bay on a clear day.

I don't golf but when my son was home, he'd tell that the golf courses in Rehoboth, Mass are nice. Rehoboth is a nice country town just across the Washington bridge into Massachusetts. Beware the bridge during commute times as it's under construction for the foreseeable future.

Triggs Memorial is a solid local course right in the city, older layout, nothing fancy, but it’s got some character and it’s usually not too crowded during the week. North Kingstown Golf Course is another good option if you don’t mind a bit of a drive, maybe 25 minutes or so, but it’s a full 18 with a nice mix of holes and a more laid-back feel. We also played Midville in West Warwick one afternoon, it’s just 9 holes, but it’s a fun little course and a good option if you’ve only got a couple hours free. Definitely book tee times ahead of time if you’re going in July; mornings can fill up fast.
That's excellent recon! I feel the golf will make the days go by faster while my daughter is dancing/competing especially if we have a good round.
