New Rolex Owner - Accessories Advice
Hello all,
I just bought my first Rolex (Datejust 41) from an AD in Cambridge after being on the waiting list for a few months. Since its new, and I'm not watch expert I was wandering if you all can share some advice about accessories that I might want to pick up for it (stands, cleaning materials etc). Appreciate your help. Thanks E |

Welcome to the forum.
You actually do not need anything special for your watch except your wrist. |

Congratulations on your DJ. A great watch.
It's really up to you how you pamper it. I wash mine in the shower when I shower and pat dry with a towel. All my watches go on winders when not in use but most of them don't get wound. It's nice to have the option to keep them wound if I want to. My advice is to neither baby it nor abuse it, and to wear and enjoy the hell out of it. |

Congrats!
I wear my (new to me) GMT II every day. I also sleep with it on, so have no need for a winder. Once a week cleaning - submerge in warm water with fairy liquid for 5 mins, wipe clean with cotton / lint free cloth and repeat, then dry. You might want to think about insurance, or at the very least check what cover you might already have... Other than that, I don't think you need to worry about much! Enjoy!! Kind regards

Welcome. Put that beautiful thing on your wrist and clean with soft toothbrush and Dawn every now and then. Enjoy for the next 30 years. Sign off this forum and never come back...
In all seriousness this is a great place but sticking around here will just lead to more purchases. You've been warned:-) |

That´s great, you´ve got a lovely watch there, a real classic! You don´t need any accessories, none at all...just give it an occasional wash in lukewarm water with a few drops of something like Fairy Liquid, and brush it clean with an old, soft toothbrush. Pat it dry with a clean dish towel. Seeing as you´re in London be very careful wearing it visibly in public! But do enjoy wearing it!

But if you want to give it a proper clean then some fairy liquid with warm water and a toothbrush to remove the grit works just fine. Don’t overthink it. ![]() |

You probably don't need anything. Dawn and a gentle toothbrush is probably all you need once in a while.
I eventually bought a travel pouch/wallet from Everest as a nice way to keep the watch safe when I need to take it off. |

Congratulations on your DJ41.
Two things for me: First, a watch roll. I take my watch off before entering the gym after work. Single watch roll gives me piece of mind it is protected and not banging around in my gym bag. I also have a multi watch roll for storing the others in the home safe. Started with a Wolf, but really like Bosphorus these days. Keep an eye on their site, they run specials a couple of times a year. Second, a watch stand. If it is not in a roll, then it is on the stand when I am not wearing it. I prefer to have it staged in that dedicated spot rather than laying on my desk or kitchen table where I might forget about it and accidently knock it off. I ordered mine from Wristonomy. Responses will vary, but these are a couple of accessories that have helped me. Welcome to the forum! |

The only things I'd recommend are WristClean foaming cleaner and a really good lint-free cloth. WristClean's cleanser is truly not snake oil! My watches look noticeably better to me using it vs Dawn dish soap as I was using before.

Not wanting to cast a cloud, but.... Wearing a Rolex in London is dangerous! In fact, even getting your phone out is. But, you will likely already know this.
I frequently have meetings in the very nice and not so nice parts, so take the view that sometimes, it's just not worth the risk. People in my industry have literally been stabbed and killed over watches, sadly one of them was murdered for a fake - a very sad story indeed. So probably the best, most logical 'accessory' would be decent insurance cover at home and when out and about! Enjoy and stay safe! Kind regards

Make sure to cover it up with all kinds of clear plastic. You don't want a single scratch on that thing.

Though someone on this forum once told me I needed $10m of cars including a Porsche 918, a 60 foot Tiara yacht and some $6k cufflinks so you may get a range of opinions here. Lol - wonder what ever happened to that guy… |

Congrats on the DJ41! Grab a microfiber cloth for quick cleans and maybe a watch pillow for storage. Skip the fancy cleaners—warm water + mild soap works. Enjoy that new-watch glow!

Congratulations you have just purchased one of the all time classic watches, enjoy wearing it.
Other than giving the watch a quick wash with a soft toothbrush and some mild liquid soap there is nothing else to worry about. When you are not wearing the DJ it can sit in its box but if you prefer something smaller then there are plenty of options out there, just do a google search. Insurance - Is your watch covered on the household insurance? If not get it added ASAP or find an alternative form of insurance, you never know when misfortune will strike (I hope it never does) but it pays to be covered. Otherwise just get out there and enjoy seeing it on your wrist.

I have a yellow and a light blue Sunshine cloth for addressing the very light, superficial scratches, if that is a concern for you. While not a panacea for all scratches, they are an inexpensive way to keep it looking sharp. Use on high polish areas only, not brushed areas, though Sunshine has cloths for those areas as well, IIRC. I don't use them, so I can't speak to their effectiveness. Enjoy your watch.

Here are the only two accessories you need.
First, go to a thrift store or charity shop and buy the most worn and soft 100% cotton t-shirt you can find. Second, go to a grocery store and buy some mild liquid dish soap (i.e. Dawn or similar). When you have acquired these items stand at your kitchen (or bathroom) sink and using your fingers and gently running room-temperature water massage the watch with lather (not for too long, that would be weird) then rinse and dry with the t-shirt. Then immediately wear the watch. These are the only two accessories required for your new Rolex. Welcome to the forum. |

I went through the accessories thing. I ended up just getting more compact pouches to put them in the safe. No more stands or boxes or winders.

Welcome. Put it on your home insurance for around £80 a year; clean it weekly or so with fairly liquid, warm water and a soft toothbrush and get a nice Everest pouch to keep it in when you have it with you but aren’t wearing it (like when playing golf for example). Enjoy - Rolex watches are tanks and far more hardy than most first time buyers think!
