1908 vs. Calatrava

How would you compare these watches in terms of build and movement finish?

Are there aspects where the Rolex outperforms or stands out from the Patek?

One is a classic from a historical brand, PP. The other is a cool watch from a great brand but it is outside the lane that Rolex does well in. I would stick to PP if I wanted that style of watch and Rolex if I wanted what they do best, bracelet models in all types of metals.

The 6119 wears bigger than the 1908. I know the received wisdom is to go for Patek when it comes to dress watches but my experience is that the 1908 wears better. Clearly the movement finishing etc is not the same.

To me the 1908 really stands out as a thin watch with a flatness to the dial which is very appealing. The hobnail bezel is very discreet and thus very elegant. The watch may wear a tad smaller than its stated size. One thing is the watch has very little heft and this is a negative to me. I guess the German silver plate in the Lange is addictive. LOL

If 1908 vs 6119 > 1908
If 1908 vs 5119 > 5119

PP in general has better movements and finishing for my tastes in dress watches.

I have a 5119 and like the manual movement's thinness.

How about the Rolex Land Dweller 40 in platinum as a comparator?

Calatrava. Though 1908 is excellent, PP is just a different watch altogether.

The 1908 wears great, but the quality of the Calatrava is better. Again, both great watches, but the 1908 is not a replacement for the Calatrava, rather just another nice dress watch.
