Question about purchasing on Moda Fbook Group

Hello, I'm a long-time collector looking to make my 1st purchase from the Moda facebook group and wanted to check in here 1st. Below is a link to the Daytona I'm looking at, which seems like a great deal. The seller shared reference checks from other users and I separately messaged Linda Moda who said "He's a good seller". Any opinions?

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1360...3006&ref=share

Thanks!

I’m always browsing thru that group, it’s a legit group. I couldn’t find the listing you mentioned, but I would pay the extra $250 to the moda moderator for the serial check.

BEWARE that is the Fake Moda Group. First, it's public. MODA is private. Second, that price is too good to be true - check the real MODA. You will get Burned on this one.

Mods, please move this to watchout.

PS here is the real Moda

That group the OP posted is not a legit Moda. Perhaps you are in the Legit MODA, but be careful giving advice without due diligence.

Otherwise, your advice to check the SN is good.

But be careful man, this was an irresponsible response. As a Moda user, you should know better. The real mods are consistently warning about the fake Moda groups.

As others have mentioned, there’s dozens of fake Modas out there and this is one of them. I almost fell victim to it myself, just be super careful.

I joined the real MODA group and I just don't think I can get comfortable with it. It just weirded me out everyone's name on there doesn't have their last time and it just has a sketchy vibe. I know I am probably wrong, but I just wouldn't sleep well wiring a bunch of money to one of the random people in that group. I am looking for a watch right now and I have decided to stick with the list of trusted grey sellers on the Reddit trusted sellers list located on the Rolex Subreddit.

This is classic misunderstanding and mistrust. If you know how MODA works and take the time for due diligence, you'll get fantastic watches are real market value. Quasi-wholesale. Many people are afraid of what they don't understand and won't take the time to learn.

You’re correct I’m not a member on the site the OP had posted. I haven’t purchased from Moda either. They just pop up in my fb feed.

MODA is legit, but there are fake groups popping up all the time. Even within MODA you’d need to do your due diligence as with any seller.

That’s a fake group. Always check it’s private not public and check the mods who will have blue checks. Then check again.

The real MODA is legit, I bet some grey dealers even buy from the dealers on MODA.
Also likely to see the first new models on MODA before any other dealers, like: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=981618

The real MODA group is legit, but you always need to do your due diligence. Many of the forum's dealers are on MODA and many dealers who are extremely well-regarded are on MODA.

That being said, please be careful. First step is to make sure you are in an actual MODA group (its not hard to figure that out). Then always make sure you do your diligence - ask for references, set up facetime calls, exchange information, etc. etc. etc.

If the deal seems to good to be true, it is. MODA has some nice deals, but you're not going to get some smoking unheard of buy. Always ask questions!

Is the real MODA group even open to new users at this point? I tried joining about 6 months ago and never heard back.

Last I checked, it's invitation only. The real Moda group always had problems with scammers joining the group and impersonating one of the admins or trusted sellers.

Just because a group has a lot of members doesn't mean it's legit. A lot of the fake Moda groups use bots to make it seem they have many members. But in reality, the fake groups only have about a dozen or so real members each. All of them part of a larger, sophisticated scammers ring.

Just because a Moda group is private does not mean it is real. There are now fake Moda groups that are private as well. Case in point, see https://www.rolexforums.com/showpost...4&postcount=18.

But yes, the real Moda group will have verified mods. Vadim Moda, Linda Moda, Nazar O Moda, Alberto Cruz Moda, etc should all have a blue checkmark next to their names.

Thanks for posting your question. Because many regular TRF collectors are on the hunt for deals, they can fall prey to imposters.

As several TRF'ers have pointed out, you should stay away from that listing.

The imposter FB "Moda" pages will have all sorts of "legit looking" references and will answer messages that appear to come from real people - but you'll be messaging with a scammer.

No it isn’t, that’s the group from their website with all of the moda people in it and verified dealers that I’ve personally worked with.

The Moda group does not have a website. It is dangerous to claim that group is real when it's actually fake. I highly doubt you've actually completed legitimate deals with real Moda people from that fake group.

Here are some glaring evidence your Moda group is fake:

Everyone, please verify with one of the Facebook-verified (blue checkmark) Moda admins if you have any doubts:

For point of reference, a reference check that is shared by a seller isn't valid in MODA - you HAVE to do your own reference check. Second, if you ever message Linda Moda, Graham Moda, or any other MODA Admin, they MIGHT offer an opinion on a seller, but will 100% of the time tell you to do a public reference check. The entirety of the MODA platform is built on reference checks and, without them, you're on your own.

Any MODA group that pops up in your FB feed without you being a member will be a fake MODA group that's there specifically to take advantage of people. Authentic MODA groups do not advertise and the only way you will find them would be to go look for them (which would have a very strong chance of being fake MODA) or to be invited by a trusted friend who is already a MODA member.

Exactly this. I've bought several watches, quite a bit of bullion, dozens of pieces of jewelry, and quite a few fashion items from the different MODA groups. You have to perform your due diligence (the same as you do here) and ensure that you're buying from a trustworthy source. But, when you're spending high dollars, the MODA vouch system / protocol is meaninful and important.

Exactly. As they say on this forum, "Buy the seller." Same on MODA. In the authentic MODA group, if you get vouches on your seller from several other members, you're as good as gold. Unfortunately, if you're in a fake group, the vouchces are meaningless.

The MODA group linked in this post is authentic though this link only takes one to the general group and not to a specific watch. But, to the point of your original post, your proposed transaction had red flags all over it -

First, a reference check that is shared by a seller isn't valid in MODA - you HAVE to do your own reference check. Second, if you ever message Linda Moda, Graham Moda, or any other MODA Admin, they MIGHT offer an opinion on a seller, but will 100% of the time tell you to do a public reference check. The entirety of the MODA platform is built on reference checks and, without them, you're on your own.

Having said that, it's weird that the link that you posted in the first post took me to a Daytona that was being sold by a fake account of a real MODA poster...

My original post and proposed transaction?
