Hulk or Starbucks

This has been asked before, but I like to frame the question in a different way.

Because of the sunburst dial of the Hulk, the dial looks black under certain lighting conditions. This being the case, why should I swing towards the Hulk instead of the Starbucks if it's going to give a black dial look half the time?

Disregard that the Hulk is no longer in production as a factor. Help me reason from a looks and cost perspectives. Note that Hulk is about 4k more expensive than a new Starbucks in my country.

Thank you.

Speaking for myself not a fan of comic book characters,or coffee in plastic cups, regarding Rolex watches I always buy the watch I want to own and wear.

The green dial Sub Date. That dial doesn’t look like black half the time, that is so untrue. If you'll find yourself in a very low light environment, from the right angle and if you stay still, then the dial could look like black. But that's for a fraction of a second. The slightest move of your wrist will make that dial display beautiful intensities of green faster than you can think "black" in your mind

Dead horse - meet yet another beating....

OP: I like the Starbucks the most. It gives a splash of color but without looking overly green all around. Bit more understated but still with some pizzazz

I’m more of the OG green dial, it just pops so nicely under direct sunlight & yes it appears black in certain lighting conditions but as lord91 noted it’s only for a fraction of a second.

I had the 116610LV for years and was my favorite watch at the time. Never bored of the green and the dial is amazing in how it plays with lighting.
When the 126610LV was released, it quickly grew on me. I came to love the stark contrast of the jet black dial against the green bezel and the more streamlined proportions.
I gave it a shot and never looked back. I still think the 116 is a fantastic watch but the 126 is my choice. No wrong answer going with either.

Owning both they are very different. The Hulk has more shimmering green regardless of lighting and is at its best in bright sunlight. The constant changing green dial will not match the more milky green hue of the bezel as much giving you a two tone green look most of the time.

The Starbucks has a gloss dial that reflects more deeply ultra black. It contrast the green bezel more which many like two distinctive colors.

Kind of agree. The Starbucks is a black Sub with a coloured bezel - the Hulk is a different beast entirely

I’ve never owned the Hulk, but acquired the Starbucks a few weeks ago and one thing I noticed is the green bezel will bleed into the dial making the dial appear green alongside the bezel. Something to think about as you make your decision.

All opinions. I could have had the hulk at retail awhile back, but didn’t like the bright green dial. Love the black dial, pure class.

Put the "Hulk" dial on the new case and it would be perfection. But one vs the other ... the new case, bracelet, and proportions push the "Starbucks" over the finish line in 1st.

Many has owned the Hulk several times to solidify the too much green again. I think the record is 3 times a Hulk owner on TRF.

116610LV…. It’s all about the dial.

Beyond that, I prefer the 11*’s narrower bracelet and clasp.

YMMV.

To further complicate the issue, there are different hues of green on the 12. And...even more complicating, some of the so called Mark 2 don't look that great in pics. Maybe they do in real life, who knows.

My preference would be the 12 with the lighter shade of green, if that was even doable.

116610LV. That dial is everything but black.

Both are cool, 12 series sub better in every way. Green dial photographs well, but in real life it’s a bit much. Starbucks is perfect amount of pop without being obnoxious.

Going against the grain.

I love green, it’s my favorite color, but specifically didn’t buy the 11 series because I just don’t like that dial personally, as well as the general 11 series blockiness.

The black dial just looks more clean and elegant to me as well as the shape of the 12 series.

The 11 series movement is probably better though…

Just being honest

Starbucks is a consolation prize, 2nd place, steak knives…
There is no second place here. Hulk is the GOAT modern submariner.
It has all the “pop” you’ll ever want or need, and then some.

The difference between the 12 series and 11 series Sub design is its own conversion and ends up a wash depending on your priorities. I went through the pros and cons comparisons with my recent 11 series Sub40C purchase.
