About 372 (and 422)

How do you guys view the PAM372; is it collectable? A 'homage'? Worth the money (in comparison to other Panerais)? Other?

And what is your comments to 372 vs 422? Which one is the better buy in your opinion?

I tried both on at my AD. Sorry about the poor quality lf the pictures, but it is better than no pictures, I think.

collectable? - very few modern panerai is collectable now, even those SEs, just look at FS section - very good 372 can be yours for less than $7k.
Worth the money? - depend on how much you pay for it.

BTW, I think 372 looks better on you than 422.

Enjoy my 422. I don't know how collectable it is but it's a great watch!

Thanks for the input.

More than one place I have read that the 422 is the 372 with seconds and PR indicator on the back - and not that the 372 is the 422 without seconds and PR indicator on the back. How come that the 372 is considered the 'point of departure" and not vice versa?

I am not sure what to get. I better wait for Panerai to reveal their new modeæs at SIHH.

BTW great pictures :)

372 was the first one to get the new case inspired by old Panerai 6152 from the 50's...
This is the reason why...
422 was launched 1 year later.

422. Sapphire crystal is the major bonus to me as both are nice. The power reserve on back is a nice bonus too. It is a very very nice watch. I wear mine a lot.

372 wins for a cleaner dial, but the PR indicator on the back of the 422 is pretty cool. As for being collectible? Don't hold your breath...neither will be for a very long time.

I agree, it's funny as a 372 is going for about 30% less than a 422 of which you don't see many. Neither will be 'collectible' as such.

In Panerai-speak, a two-hand watch is a "base". The first Panerai-Rolex watches in the 1930s and 1940s were two-handers. The first one with a second hand came after the switch to Angelus movements in the 1950s.

Agree with whoever said that neither are collectable.. Very few modern Panerais beyond PreV and PreA are, for that matter, IMO.

Beyond that, its a matter of taste.. I prefer the 372 as it's a purer homage to the 6152.. More DNA so to speak.

I sold my 372

Time after I bought the 422. Perfect watch!

For me, the sapphire glass is important but it's much more important the PR in the back.

While I prefer the 111 over the 112, between the 372 and 422, I have a clear preference for the 372 over the 422. The "9" + plexi + two hands look great to me. Also, I don't know if it's true, but, it seems like the 422 has more ecru lume than the 372, of which I'm not a fan. However, the 422's PR is a nice touch.

I admire both pieces though very much.

Thanks for all your input - and the fabulous visuals.

In the perfect world I would choose the 372 (even though I like e.g. the 177 over 176) WITH a power reserve indicator on the back. Maybe this watch will be released i the coming week at SIHH :)

These pics are going to make me want to try the 372 again. I sold it because I thought it looked too big, but damn. Maybe I made a mistake. I can repurchase it at around 2k less than what I sold it for looks like. Oh no, the seed's been planted!

If the 372 had sapphire I'd be all over it, but since it doesn't the 422 is my next PAM.

Agree that both shall not be collectable in the foreseeable future ... but to me the choice was very easy ..422

Seconds
PR

The two reasons why I prefer the 422

Having gone through a number of models, I've finally settled on the 372 as my favorite Panerai (short of a vintage 6152). It just hits all my marks at a great price.

You will enjoy!

I had different Panerai, 064, 418 and 372, but for me the 422 is the best.
