Ok, someone please help me find this Crhonograph

A while ago, I was reading a rolex book, i think it was the Italian one... with the Gold Daytona on the cover. Anyway, it was years ago so the details are a bit fuzzy (with me details from earlier in the day are fuzzy ) but I remember a picture of a chronograph, similar to a Daytona but it had a very unique date function. Instead of a window, there was a hand that pointed to numbers on the outside of the dial (within the crystal) from one to 31. I remember it to be a very attractive watch face. Just guessing, i would say it was from the 40s(?). But now, i can not find anything on that model. Can anyone help me? Does anyone know which model I am referring to? Or am I just hallucinating (again).

Thanks,

Star dial is extremely rare, but they still fetch huge $$$ in any condition and dial configuration
