Lost time last night, should I worry?

Last night, it appears my Rolex lost about 6 hours. I wore it all day Friday, then didn't wear it yesterday until I put it on for about an hour in the evening, then I went to put it on around noon today, and it read 6am. However, it was still running. I thought that it should be able to go unworn for almost two days before running out of juice. Given the above-mentioned usage, do you think I have a problem? I wound it and reset it, and so far so good today.

The watch is only a month old, purchased from an AD. If it already needs service, then I want a new one.

Did you wind the crown 40 times? I just timed my Explorer yesterday to find out that it is slow 2 minutes. However, I don't mind setting my watch every two days to the right time.

I wound it about 25 times before putting it on, figuring I'd wear it all day today so it should be back up to full power shortly.

I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but if there is a problem, what's the procedure for getting Rolex to replace the watch (since it's only a month old)? I'll be in NY the week after Thanksgiving, is a week enough time for them to examine the watch, determine there's a problem, and then swap it out?

Personaly,I don't think there is anything wrong with your watch!!!!!
25 turns only really half wound it up...When you wore it for a day,all that really did was kept it half wound until you put it down....Then when you picked it up it had probably just started moving from the movement of you grabing it,thus had really just stopped 6 hours before...I bet if you had of put it down it would have stopped in a min or 2!!!
General movement of your wrist/arm only keeps it wound, heavy vigorous movements will wind the watch up more but it needs to be alot of movement to actually increase the wind!!!!
Try this.....Wind it 40 times and leave it untouched face up....If it runs for around +/- 48 hours, there's nothing wrong with it!!!!!
Hope that helps!
Rob.

I agree with Rob...

You have not been active enough to keep the watch wound......

Ok, good to know. To clarify, 25 winds was this morning, after I noticed the time was off. I don't hand-wind that often, and I'd been wearing the watch all week (though I'm not super active during the day). I took it off Friday night, then didn't pick it up again till Saturday night when I wore it to make diner and take a nap. Today around noon I picked it up, saw it was still ticking but was running 6 hours behind, gave it about 25 winds, put it on, and it's been fine for the last three hours.

I'm hoping everything is OK and there isn't something wrong. That said, if there is, I'll be spending the first week of December in NY, so that's the place to get things taken care of if need-be.

Edit: I just re-wound the watch, did it 40 times, and did one of the hardest things I've ever done: I put it on the dresser knowing I wasn't going to touch it for two whole days.

I'm sure it's fine Danny.....Try the test I talked about before!! That'll tell you for sure........
PS: From a dead start, always give it around 40 winds!!!

Hey Danny,

I'm voting with Larry and Rob. You got about a day out of a typical 'office' winding...and, in my lmited experience, thats seldom enough input to go much longer. Unless I wear a watch every day for a few days, or at least put it on the winder, it never makes it into the second day of rest. I'd go for at least one more scientific sampling before I sent it off to the shop ($$$$). Stay Cool, Man, and Good Luck!

I have the same issue with my IWC, but that's been the case since day 1. Usually my Rolex goes longer, or at least it feels that way. What was of greater concern, actually, was that it was still running, but had lost so much time. At 12pm it said 6am, which means it started slowing down long before 6am.

Maybe, that's definitely possible. The watch was on its side, in the Rolex box (no pillow) in the drawer, so picking up the box and setting it down on the dresser may have done that.

Try it one more time with a full 40-50 winds. If it does it again, send it for service. I doubt anyone would change it for you.

But I honestly think it is fine and it just wasn't fully energized!

If I contacted Rolex USA with a six week old watch that wasn't functioning properly, and it wasn't a difficult one to get, they wouldn't replace it? Doesn't seem right that I'd have to wait longer for a repair than a replacement on something that's defective. Again, I'm getting ahead of myself (I hope), but I always like to plan for the worst.

exactly what I was thinking...saved me having to type it
Give it 2 days and then go from there....don't worry about it, it's under warranty.

Rob and Larry are on the money. It just needs to be brought to full power. Rolex states 40 to 50 turns.

Right from the get go you got some bad advice IMHO. Make sure you fully wind your watch, I give mine 45-50 turns, you can't overwind them. If you are not a very active person, you will need to wind you watch more often, simple fact. There is nothing wrong with winding your watch every couple of days, this way you know you have a full power reserve.

I would never half way wind my watch and expect daily wear to increase the power reserve. The way I see it, wearing it keeps the power reserve up after fully winding the watch, then at night it loses some. The next day when wearing it, I am maintaining the rest of the power reserve, not increasing it unless I am running a marathon with it.

Final Report

Had to leave for the airport at 2:45, so I put the watch on at 2:30, just under 47 hours after the full wind. Would you believe it, still keeping time. I think we're A-OK.
