Does the Strap Make the Watch?

Posted this over at the 'other' Panerai board, but thought I'd repost here for those of you who don't get over there.

One of the things I love about Panerai watches is the way I can get a totally new feeling about the watch by changing the strap. The strap is so much a part of the character of the watch IMO. Like many of you, I probably own far too many straps. It's hard to break the habit though because I will occasionally pick up a strap that redefines the watch in my eyes. Does anyone else get that feeling? I find that buying straps sometimes is a good substitute for my desire to buy new watches (and a heck of a lot cheaper)! Here are my current favorite pairings. I hope you like them.

Loved the 249. Was at a grey dealer yesterday trying a few pieces including the 249, 232 and 292 non pig. (as well as the usual 210, 183, 288 etc)

The 249 looked so good in person. That Cali dial is just something else. Wasnt too keen on the price tag though

Love the pix thanks for sharing.

Yes I think for a PAM, the strap plays a great part in the watch itself! :)

Totally agree - but for me its also about the comfort that certain straps provide.

So true! The straps bring out the 'newness' of wearing my Pam as well! But summers here in Florida, I war the oem rubber strap. Just to 'humid' here....

I'm sorry but this makes absolutly no sence to me.

COMFORT, Panerai kills Rolex in terms of comfort. A nice soft leather strap feels way better on the wrist than a metal bracelet. I have straps that are so soft and flexible, nothing compares.

Fashion purposes, it's not like straps are a new invention, they were around before bracelets, and they have never gone out of style.

X2.

In fact perhaps the best strap for comfort I've used are the MX straps. For most everything else Ted Su's straps work wonders for me.

I do think certain straps/styles go better with certain references.

i live in a humid place and straps just dont cut it especially when there is sweat and wrist expansion.

i switch back and forth between pams and oyster bracelet. the links in the oyster bracelet out comfort the straps.

i like wearing straps only to fit with what i wear.
