Will Panerai honor this as a warranty issue?

I picked up a pre-owned Panerai and I found a scratch/debris by the power reserve on the dial. The watch is a K serial (Nov. 2009) model and it's just out of warranty. Do you think Panerai will honor the warranty without having me to pay for a complete service?

The simple answer would be to take it to them, but it's not close to me. Has anyone experienced anything like this?

See the attached picture.

Any watchmaker should be able to remove that if it's debris. I could do it myself. Oh and congrats on a great piece!

If it's out of warranty, no.

233K is beautiful.. everytime I think maybe I will trade it for another.. I always come back to ... what are you crazy?!

Enjoy her.. and as Mike said, any competent watchmaker can do that for you. If not, I would give the NY boutique a call and ask, worst thing they can say is NO right?

Good luck and enjoy her!

Best,

Fred

After looking at it closely, it looks like the "fang" created a vertical scratch on the dial.

Beautiful watch but needs a new bezel (banged up and dented) and the case needs to be polished (deep scratches). Also found a light chip on the crystal. Not a good deal as it looked.

Working with Riley to get it sorted out. Seems like a standup guy and quick on responding.

Thanks for the responses.

I wouldn't want to mess with a piece like that. I am glad that the seller is working with you. I hope he is going to accept a no strings attached full refund.

I had the same issue with my Sub date 16610 too but somehow it disappeared after 3 years of wearing. I try to look for it all over the dial surface but just varnished like magic. Ha ha ha...

Hope yours will disappear too.

I saw that watch for sale on another forum and it was described as "mint". I would seek a complete refund.

Update:
The seller deducted money from the purchase price to cover the undisclosed imperfections. To the seller it was in mint/excellent condition, to me as an anal collector, it was in good condition.

He thought (unintentionally) the imperfections on the crystal and dial were dust particles when actually it was light chips/scratches. Using a loupe & my eagle eyes actually confirmed the imperfections.

Lesson learned:
- Watch grading is variable from normal sellers
- Always ask for many detailed pictures, if you feel resistance, move on...
- If buying a high-end piece, buy from a dealer from the site or an AD. They will be accurate with watch grading

Glad Riley made good on the watch. So are you sending it in to PASC for service?

I plan on getting it serviced, but I can't seem to take it off my wrist. It's an amazing watch causing me to neglect my other watches.

Also, this is a rare "dot" dial with a late K-serial which makes me overlook the imperfections (for now).

I'll probably wait awhile till I send it in, but I expect PASC to charge me an exorbitant amount for servicing (crystal, dial and overhaul).
