SS Daytona for PAM 275

Hey guys, I know that this is a Panerai forum, but given that it's within the TRF umbrella, I'm hoping for a balanced response from the resident watch lovers and experts

So, as the title says, I am considering flipping an M-serial SS Daytona (with a white Arabic WG dial) for a PAM 275. I love leather straps and also appreciate the beautiful hand-wound movement in the 275.

It would essentially be a one for one trade, with maybe a bit of extra cash on top from me. My main concern is whether this is a good switch value wise? Will the PAM hold it's value as well as the Daytona? Or will I be looking at a steep discount if I need to get rid of the PAM?

Thanks a lot for your input.

Both are great watches. The only difference is that, people will recognise a daytona from any angle but a 275 in a glance is the same with 233, 312, 320 or any other luminors.

A 275 is close to perfection in panerai, but you will miss that daytona for sure.

My suggestion is : dont do it. That white gold beauty is a keeper. Just wait and look around for a cleaner dial panerai. Some say base is ace with great deal of DNA.

not sure if the 275 is the one i'd flip a daytona for, both in terms of what the 275 is and that the daytona will hold its value better than the 275.

The Daytona will most likely hold it's value better.

Thanks for your help guys, I was kinda leaning towards keeping the Daytona.

But I do like the look and style of the Luminor. Perhaps I could start with a less expensive model without having to flip a watch.

Any suggestions for an entry PAM, something iconic like how a sub is often the 1st Rolex many people buy?

If you like the look of the 275, maybe get a 233 or 312.

Thanks all, I am certainly also considering the 233. It will come down to a choice between the 233 and 275, I think, given that they're the 2 I like the best in terms of looks and features, and I am quite struck by the hand wound movement with 8 day power reserve.

Was hoping not to expand the small collection but looks like a PAM will end up being an addition, rather than a replacement

Get the 233. 275 is similar to the Daytona with chronograph without the date. No point getting something similar. I own a Daytona too but I miss the date function. Was thinking about the 311 and decided to get a 233 to my collection

Get the 233... you will take a bath on the 275/311...

275s can be had around the 12kish mark or below. Good luck with the search!

Do you mean 12kish for the 275 pre-owned?
I've just seen the new 2012 price list posted here and the MSRP of the 275 is $20,000, and the 233 is $15kish.
I've seen pre-owned 233s for about $9500, so I suppose that's what you mean when you say Ill take a bigger hit on the secondary market on the 275?

Also, and this has probably been asked many times, but what sort of discount can one expect at an AD for Panerai?

I like the PAMs but my Daytona isn't going ANYWHERE except on my wrist for a LONG LONG time.
