Windows Blue is Microsoft's Future

Microsoft's not talking, but this is the word from The Verge.

I don't know what to think. Windows 8 is still not even potty trained and they are reportedly planning a very cheap or even free OS that will be updated yearly.

Here's the original story.

Speaking of Win 8, I saw it in the bargain bin in a large stationary chain here in Australia for less than $80 (if I remembered clearly) each but its not boxed versions just dvd in dvd cover cases. I thought it was strange as its only just been released and Windows has never been less than a $100 especially for new non OEM version.

I find that extremely surprising.

My read is different Grady. The MS source is unnamed, so a grain of salt with each grain of truth.

This could just be the inevitable next update for Win8 to fix papercuts and bloopers from Win8.

This article is about the first update for Windows 8 that will be pushed out next month.

http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/article.php?a=11560

I do realize that the Windows Blue is still unconfirmed by Microsoft, but these rumor websites are pretty good at keeping their ears to the ground, so to speak.

They often get quite a few facts wrong, but on the whole their "predictions" pan out pretty well and what their talking about is not just an update of Windows 8, it's a new model completely for MS, anyway.

I'm sure there's some truth in that, but this information was first leaked int August.

Here's another story:

I think Microsoft has some major problems since they have released Windows 8 as a make or break product and there are already rumors of the next. You only hear about the next one this early when you have a crap product. Windows ME, Windows Vista for example. You didn't hear much when XP or Win 7 were released.

I will not be using windows 8 that's for sure. Tried it out in the beta phase and did not enjoy it at all.

I think majority of Win users on Win 7 have no real convincing reason to change to Win 8 other than to catch the latest craze compared to the jump from DOS to Win 3, Win 95 to XP, XP to Win 7. Win 7 to Win 8 just doesn't seem like anything of a big jump for users so it makes sense to do without until the real next big change and innovation.

If there is anything to this story about a new upgrade system, it is probably just to encourage people to switch to 8.

The little time that I had to play around with 8 certainly didn't convince me that I need to change or that there is any significant difference in 7 and 8, except for the obvious touch-centric interface.

If you are using a touchscreen, win 8 may be worth looking at. I wouldn't, but some may. Win 7 works great and there is nothing I have seen or MS has sold me on as a reason to upgrade. On that note, the new iMacs get released tomorrow so I am pretty sure I know what my next upgrade will be.

Windows Blue: How it could reinvent Windows (or sink Windows 8)

The rumors keep coming.
With Windows 8's much ballyhooed launch barely a month behind us, alleged details of Microsofts [sic] next next-generation operating system have already begun swirling around the Net. And if those whispered rumors prove accurate, Windows Blue—as the rumored OS has been dubbed—will continue the seismic sea changes started in Windows 8.

Blue would introduce a standardized software base shared between Windows proper and Windows Phone, and also move toward cheaper, yearly software updates.

Is the rumor true? We won't know for sure until the middle of next year, when Windows Blue will allegedly be released. We can, however, examine the deeper implications of each aspect of the Windows Blue rumors—as well as whether the very existence of these rumors could hurt Windows 8's success in the short run.
