Do you think that this is the start of a trend?....<more>
After going through the Panerai website this afternoon, I see more of a mix of 40, 42, 44, 45 and 47mm watches that we have seen in the past.
True, there have always been the 40mm (Pam 48-50), the 42mm (Pam 98 and 141), 44mm of course, Radiomirs in 45mm and the big Luminor cases.....but I see a few 42mm with the Radiomir 1940 case....and I think there was also a white dialed/date that stood out to me. Is this the start of a trend for Panerai? Elliot |

What trend? A watch for all size wrists is a good thing.

Re: Trend
I think the trend (That I don't like) is adding faux (fake) patina to some of their watches. And adding the words "vintage" to them. Jeez, we get it that it is a vintage "replica" and can't make hands and markers age naturally so they will just make them yellow. Yek!

Permit me to state it differently.......
Since Richmont bought Panerai in 1997 the product line leaned more towards 44mm and 47mm watches. It can be said that they were the leader in oversized watches as more manufacturers followed. They reduced the amount of 40mm and 42mm watches over the years. Now, we can see them introducing more than just a few 42mm models into their collection. They have even brought out a "new" case design of the Radiomir 1940 in 42mm which, originally, in 1940 was 47mm. My question is: Is this a trend towards much more diversity on the model lineup or is it a sign that they may just be testing the waters to see if the trend may just lean towards a smaller case for the future? no, no trend, IMHO, just a filling out of the line up after a couple of years of heavy development of the 47 range. they even hedged their bet and put out the 1940s in 42 and 47 guise.
current breakdown of models:

I personally alternate between 40mm Rolexes and 47mm Panerais, but there was a time not so long ago when there were no 40mm watches, Rolex or otherwise, that were in my personal watch box.
A lot of the Panerai guys that I talk to are not as diehard as they used to be on the brand. Not that the love is gone, but they are more open to wearing smaller watches again. |

I tried on the Egiziano at the Boca boutique last week. I could never wear it. The damn thing weighed a ton! Really, really heavy and impractical. |
