Question for SS Daytona owners
A white dial SS Daytona is very much on the top of my list at the moment but we all know how expensive and hard ot get they are.
The question I have is this. Once you get one, does the reality live up to the expectation? I mean REALLY. Do you find that you put it on and can't take your eyes off it OR after a while do you sort of feel let down. I am determined to get one but I just want to get some true insight from those who go before me. Thanks - Simon ![]() |

To be honest, I have always had a love/hate relationship to the SS Daytona.
The one I own now is my forth one! When I don't have it, I want it, and when I have it, I don't want is so much. That's why I have already flipped three SS Daytonas. I bet if Rolex made as many SS Daytonas as other Rolex models, the demand for them would disappear instantly. Much of the hype about it is simply caused by the low numbers of them being manufactured.

I don't drive with my Daytona on. It's too distracting.
I don't go to many events or places where I have to speak to people because I'd rather look at my Daytona. I'm in Paris at the moment, and I'm missing my Daytona, but my Pepsi GMT-II is more practical but that is not the point. If I haven't seen my Daytona for a while, I take it out of the box, wind it up, polish it, then wear it around the house till I'm ready for bed and tuck her back in her box first after polishing it. I often bump into things around the house, but I don't care. I've even taken my Daytona into the sea at my wedding party when it was decided that all the dudes would drink champagne from the bottle and then go for a 1am dip. I didn't rinse it until the next morning when I woke up with a hangover and neglected to kiss my wife good morning BEFORE rinsing the Daytona. |

Simon That is a very good question.
Looking forward to reading the replys, as I like you are considering getting one, except I wouldn't like to a) wait 5 years & b) pay way over the odds. ![]() Tony |

I just got mine in December and have not given it any serious wrist time, but I do like it and have not been sorry I bought it.

Very nice overall watch,
very comfy. For me the SS Daytona can be hard to read and the chrono function is almost useless as it is so hard to read, for me. But given that I still enjoy the watch, nice bracelet and weight and so comfortable.

I have had quite a few over the years and when I first open them at the AD, the expectation is always exceeded. I usually hold them for a year or so and use the proceeds to fund another purchase, but I have pledged that I will never do it again. I have a black dial and am due to get the white dial very soon. I will hold these two watches for as long as "forever" might be. The SS Daytona is the only watch I have ever regretted selling, so I am not going to do it any longer. I don't feel as though the wait or the exclusivity has anything to do with it - it is just a beautiful watch!

Most of the time I'd rather wear my Sub... I cant get over the feeling, real or imagined, that my Sub is practically indestructible and I'll put a scratch in my Daytona.
So when the suit and tie comes out, the Daytona comes out. I can't see using the tachymetre to time how long it takes me to get one drop of fuel in my Zippo so I can light some candles; but it's great for lap times at a bike race. [Guess if I had a $250,000 dollar sports car I wouldn't worry about scratching the Daytona ![]() As much as I like my Daytona, I wear my Sub the most. ![]() |

Some very honest opinions, thanks guys. I would expect lots of "great watch" responses but it's interesting to see what some of the less than 100% satisfied have to say also.
I am still determined to get one. I'm equally determined not too pay over the odds so I may have a long wait. |

I feel the same way about my TT Blue Sub. I can't take my eyes off of it. I wouldn't trade my Sub for anything, including a Daytona. Find the one you like, don't just get the one everyone else likes.

Last week at an AD I was shown a new white faced S/S Daytona, thta was waiting for its new owner tocome and collect it.
The order had been placed in 2003 when the price was £3,700 the new owner will now have to pay the current of £4,420 I would love to get one but I don't want to have to wait 5 years. ![]() Tony |

Pictures do not do the SS Daytona any justice , it must be worn and compared with other watches including other Rolex's ,its one of the nicest watches out there. I've had mine for a whole 48 hours, and think its the nicest in my collection, it grows on you. My intention was to buy a TT Daytona with the slate dial. I think the hardest was deciding on the color of the dial, worst thing is you end up flipping it. But I for one paid msrp and refused to pay above that price, remember good things come to those who wait. You yourself will know if this is the watch for you. |

It's really hard to decide in a store if a watch will actually be the "one". Buy it, try it and you'll soon know yourself. Post us up a review when you join the club !! ![]() |
