New Rolex Submariner release

I'm looking to purchase a new Rolex submariner 11660 ln. Is there any inside information on when the new release would be. I would hate to purchase it and a new one is released.

If you mean the 116610 Submariner Date, there won't be any updates any time soon.

Buy it right now. Then post pics.

Watches aren't like cars, they don't change every year. Especially Rolex watches, they tend to stay the same for a very long time before any changes/updates are made, and when they do it's big news (to us, at least).

And any changes will be minute:) a new blue spring, slightly different shaped lugs, different bezel material.

It's not like you can invent a new way to tell time.

The predecessor of the 116610 (the 16610) was in production for more than 20 years.

I was more excited by the different paint used on the dial!

Welcome aboard macduffi

The watch is a 116610 LN not a 11660 LN. That extra number makes a difference. Plug the model number into the search box and read read read. Tons and tons of info here. You'll spend hours.

The Rolex Submariner is one of the most classic and important watches ever made. You'll enjoy it

Haha! I see your note in the edit reasons.

But seriously, I remember starting out and using the wrong reference number from time to time. Searches came up pretty empty

No worries on the typo, they're just trying guide you along! As far as what you should know before purchasing, there are a few secrets for sure!

One for example is the secret handshake you do with the AD ( authoried Dealer). Kinda hard to explain, but almost like a high five where both of you point all 5 fingers in the air in attempt to resemble the Rolex crown and you quickly bump your palms 2 times in rapid succession! Not something you discuss ahead of time, and you (the buyer) have to initiate the double bump as this is the secret code to the salesman that you know what up and are experienced and cool!

Once they realize that you are in the loop and know the coded handshake...that is a guaranteed 10% off!

Once they confirm the 10% reduction and it's time to pay...also offer them a Cow, a sheep or one of your woman (your wife or girlfriend will do) to sweeten the deal, and they will usually offer up a second Rolex of your choice at 1/2 price!!!

All kidding aside...go buy that amazing Sub already!!!

Try one on at an authorized dealer to make sure you really want one. There are several options to chose from: SubC no Date 114060, Sub C Date 116610LN in black, 116610GV in green, and the new Seadweller Ceramic 116600. The older model 16610 is no longer in production but readily available in the for sale forums as are all of the newer subs. Do a search in the for sale forums for price checks.
Oh, and if you try one or all of the above on and they don't make you jump for joy, there is always the GMT IIc, the deap sea sea dweller, the Yachtmaster, the .....
Find the model that makes your day, purchase from a reliable source, put on wrist, Enjoy!!

I would suggest you go to an AD and try on the watches first. See what sings to you. The classic black bezel ones would be the 114060 (no date) and the 116610LN (date). Quirky ones would be the 116610LVc (green!) and two tone (TT) blue dial and bezel

After that, see what discounts you can get from the AD - generally 5-8% is a good rule of thumb but if establish a good relationship you can get 10% off. Another route is to deal with the trusted sellers on the forums - usually they can get you a better deal.

Good luck and welcome on your journey!

another thing for someone new to keep in mind is the inevitable price increase. Rolex will increase their prices, so the same exact watch will cost you more in the near future. Nobody knows when, but as sure as death and taxes it will come. If you have the money and want it, buy sooner than later. The prices will always go up and never down.

That's what I love about Rolex. The continuity of their timepieces. I highly doubt we'll be seeing a new submariner anytime soon. As previously stated the old ref 16610 was around since 89? Correct me if I'm wrong but well over 20 years.

With this new bezel upgrade along with a completely new bracelet with solid links and CLASP!!!! It think it's gonna stay for quite some time .

Buy the new seadweller and you're safe for 10 years or so.

Great advice guys! One more question. Is $8000 a fair price to pay for submariner date 116610LN ?
