Impressions after a week with 16570 EXP II

Just thought I would share some pics of my week with the 16570, the story on how I picked it up is in the general discussion area, and I'm even happier now having gotten to know it better.

When I decided to pull the trigger on this piece, I had other straps in mind to wear it with, Nato and bund straps, and even something more dressy to wear it on a night out.

I completely changed my mind after having the bracelet resized and then adjusting it to get the perfect fit at home. I thought it was a bit of a chore, especially coming from the SDc and the glidelock clasp on that is so easy to adjust on the fly. But after getting the right fit, I really think I'll leave it on the bracelet and just wear it like that. I think it's the best look and the only downside are really hot days when it would get tight, but even living in the humid and tropical weather here, it hasn't been so bad where I've feltI couldn't deal with it.

The only other flaw is the lume, I am a hands on Dad, and I wake up in the middle of the night to feed my youngest daughter and because of that I need to track the time of her feeding, how long she's slept etc. It's a bit faint half way through the night, I can read it, but it can be a bit tricky. Compared to the SDc, the blue hue and maxi dial is just easier to read.

At the same time, the case and elements that make up the dial, i.e dimensions and proportions of everything put together, hands, indices, date and Cyclops, GMT hand, are all perfectly matched. The watch is an M Serial and I really like the thinner borders on the hour indices found on the later 16570 compared to the earlier ones. Aesthetically I find this reference much easier on the eye than its successor, which is a pretty awesome watch, but not to my taste.

It has kept time pretty much spot on this week I've had it. I don't know what sorcery the previous owner dabbled in, but I think this watch is absolutely stellar.

This I believe will be another keeper for me. I love it so much that I will resume my hunt for a Polar in a similar condition and roughly the same age.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I hope in my own little way, I've been able to give back a little to this very cool community.

Great watch - often under rated though not sure why? Really rugged and dependable

I couldn't agree with you more. I think maybe the much older bracelets, from when these first came out, were the only weak link.

But if the wearer never had the chance to try the newer solid end links on the later serial and the newer clasps on modern Rolex I'm not sure what they'd have to complain about.

I've worn this daily while traveling to Tokyo for work and I really appreciate the characteristics even more.

Great review
My Polar Explorer II, 16570 M serial has solid end links, wearing more comfortable than Rolex Sub Date & Sub ( no date ); even better on my wrist than Rolex GMT II 16710 ( which having the same bracelet )

Those make quite a pair! I'm replenishing the Rollie fund for a Polar for my youngest daughter. I do admit, the Explorer II with the SEL sits great on my wrist and I have a problem missing it when I wear the SDc but vice versa I miss the SDc when I'm with my Exp II

This is rapidly becoming a grail watch for me. I've tried a couple on and both times thought it leaner and meaner than my BLNR. It just seems underrated and that draws me even more.
