Would or wouldn't you

I currently have a 5127R, which I use as my days off piece and a 5167A for work and swimming etc.

As I suspect with many of us the hunt can be more fun then actually achieving the goal.

For the past few months, I have been looking to get something else. And my choices have varied from a Rolex Day Date, FP Journe, Lange & Sohne and also back to Patek Philippe.

With the Patek I was looking, as per a previous thread to get a 5146P. But a preowned piece are few and far between.

Recently I saw a 5146R being sold by a grey dealer here in the UK. Now I have always loved R/G and the 5146 was the first Patek model that I owned. The price of the watch was reasonable. So I contacted them to see if they would be interred in doing a trade against my pieces. I half expected them to come back and say yes and that they would offer X amount for mine and I would have to make up the difference in cash.

But much to my surprise they offered me £2,300 more for mine then theirs. Which would make a nice change.

I spoke with my AD on this matter, and he said that they were probably after the 5167A. And that I should hang on to it, as at worse will hold their price or best go up in value.

My piece come with both box & papers, the 5127 is from 2008 and was serviced by Patek last year. The 5167A is a 2016 model.
The 5146R is from 2008 has B&P but I do not believe that it has been serviced.

I have been considering this deal for the past two weeks and I would be interested to hear what other members have to say.

Incidentally, I could only afford to do the deal by trading both pieces.

Personally I'd keep the two you have. Full disclosure I have a 5167A and a 5146J in my collection.

Do you have something to beat around still (sub or whatever)? If you are ready for a move I say do it.

@codecow we haven't seen any pics of that beautiful 5131R yet....

To the OP I think you can get between GBP 12000 - 13 000 for the 5167A and I don't think I would be tempted on the 5146R over GBP 20 000. I think new they are around £29000 and this is 9 years old and no service! But I would keep the two.

I'd keep the two, nice balance. Maybe trade the Aqua for a Naut if you fancy a change.

I was thinking the exact same thing. That's what I would do.

If you can't keep the Aquanaut and trade up the 5127 for the 5146, then stick with what you have

I agree, the 5167 and 5146 would be a good combination but if that's not an option then hang on to what you've got.

It really comes down to how much you really miss the 5146 - your first Patek! If you have nostalgia about your first Patek and regret letting it go in the first place, ignore everyone's opinions here and go with what will make you happy!

The 5146, 5167, 5127 are all great references. As you already know, the AC is quite a useful complication. Having said that, the classic Calatrava and the sporty Aquanaut are quite practical watches.

Good luck in your decision!

I think you need a sporty watch in your stable ; so choice A) do the trade and use the 2.5k towards a Sub or choice B) save money and just trade Calatrava plus cash for the 5146
Good luck
I know the feeling , love that reference

Thanks gents for all your valuable thoughts, the poll is quite - so far, a resounding no.

I shall continue to fight my impulsive urge and see how I feel in a few weeks time.

I must admit, though, I do have a couple of other watches, that I could use on a semi daily basis though not full time.

I would trade the Calatrava for your first love, a 5146 and either keep the Aquanaut or trade it plus some cash for a 5711/1A-011.

I voted no as well. But why do I get the feeling you're going to do it anyways.

Love both, classic vs modern look. I been on that position before, you wake up one day and say I am a slate grey dial guy and the next day say I am cream dial guy. I am Lucky that the P version offers one dial only

If press between these two I would go 5146R

Good luck bro
keep up posted
Hope to see you posting in the 5146 appreciation thread soon

I do enjoy wearing them both.

The 5127R is great for days off and I tend to wear the 5167A for work.

Trade the 5712 Calatrava for the 5146R. That is an easy decision if you got the cash. The AC is a perfect upgrade of the Calatrava. Then you have a great 2 watch collection. Here is my 5146R
