Rolex Airking 119600 New Model Rare?

Please could I ask the forum why the new Airking model is difficult to buy new?
I have been looking on sites such as Watchfinder and they are selling over RRP for secondhand ones . Are Rolex not supplying many in the U.K. Or is there a demand bigger than supply?
If so is it worth investing in one potentially.

Supply is still restricted on many SS since Brexit and dealers have got used to selling used popular and new pieces at higher prices so they are in no hurry to return to pre-Brexit normal pricing. The pound has reversed again after Theresa May's election fiasco so another price rise may be coming later this year, in which case these are priced OK.

Ironically, I just saw one in the AD yesterday while visiting...I'm in the states though, so that's not very helpful.

I don't think it's an investment piece, by any stretch of the imagination.

Mass produced watches are not an investment, simple supply and demand

Yeah, I'd have to agree with you, Adam. They're kind of languishing in AD & grey window displays alike over here in Tsuen Wan.

Afraid no modern day Rolex could be classed as rare and IMHO not a investment, Rolex watches should be bought because thats the model you want to own and wear.

Exactly, I wouldn't buy any as an investment. Buy the one you like and focus on enjoying it.

I think the model you are talking is 116900 and your title has a typo, its not 96!

In the Netherlands the Airking can be found at a discount at grey dealers and that's a indicator that the model is not rare in my opinion.

Tried one on at a local AD recently. Looks great in person, and probably able to get a discount as its a slow mover.

Adam

I thought you were a wise old bird.

The AirKing is very marmite with more people disliking it than liking it. It will probably get discontinued in a few years time and then become a collectors item and prices will soar.

Just remember back in the 70s/80s, Rolex could barely give away the Freccione 1655 because it was too complex to read and served no real purpose. It got discontinued and now today is considered cool and highly priced.

In the world of Rolex, low volume sales today equates to a classic in later years.

Regards

Mick

The ADs I deal with has lists for them, but not extensive lists. They come into stock and sell fast. They don't hang around in the displays the way Milgauss/EXP2 do for example.

I'd register your interest with a few ADs and you'll get one pretty quickly. At £4,550 it's good value.

Rare? No. Unpopular? Possibly.
