The Feminizing of the DateJust..... Or Not ??

We've had some posts lately on the "feminizing" of the 36mm DateJust..

That and the new "White Diamond Daytona" at Basel.. (jazzed up Beach Daytona ?)

So, It's clear that Rolex is jumping on the "Big Watch" trend..

But............Women in men's watches

This isn't the same thing as traditionally sized Men's watches targeted for women, now is it..

So............will these new offerings - at quite a bit more cost than a Men's model - take off and be seen in all the celebrity circles

I don't have an answer....Maybe by next year we will know more...

In my opinion, I don't think it's so much women wanting to wear a bigger watch, it's the idea of wearing a man's watch.

Rolex can increase the size and it won't affect their decision because a 36mm DJ is for women, so they want to wear a man's watch. If the 36mm isn't a man's watch from Rolex eventually you will start to see them wear the DJII.

It's this trend of "tom-girl" watches....why buy a bigger woman's watch when you can just buy the man's watch.

Maybe women can chime in on this....

Some genious actually came up with an engagement ring for men in the USA. It's been mentioned in a couple of newspapers and television talkshows.

Didn't Arnold Schwartzenegger's wife make a public speech at a huge rally recently when Obama introduced the new "Women's Commitee" and said out loud "The United States of America is a nation of women!"?

These days you have women wearing men's underwear.

You think I'm surprised about the de-masculanization of men's watches?

Oh yeah, and women will fall for it. All you need is Oprah/Hilton/Ellen to endorse it and masses will follow.

Women are generally an untapped market, and I can see why Rolex would want their money just as bad as ours.

The DJ is still a man's watch...though it does come with lady-friendly dials. I like women's watches on women, and men's watches on women. But a dolled-up men's watch? Seems faddish to me, but I guess there are people out there who can indulge trends to the tune of $6k.

Yeah, but her target audience is hetero-women.

Wasn't it a couple of years ago when I read here that Ellen wanted a SS Daytona on her show and a couple days later, some AD in Las Vegas sent her one for free! She showed the watch on her show and gave the guy a plug.

Next thing I heard was the demand for a SS Daytona was up higher than it was before.

Try this out, the next time you watch television, count how many commercials are targetted at men vs women. In those commercials, which gender is selling the item? In the same commercial, if both genders are present, which gender is made out too look smart and sofisticated and which one is made to look like a dofus.

You'll be surprised.

I'll name one I saw just now. The Pepto-Bismal commercial.

I have no doubt that the "feminized" DJ will be a hit and that Rolex will sell as many as they can produce. Look at the leopard Daytona for cripes sake, they've sold every one ever made!

Should they have? Tough decision to make. I'm of two minds. One says "Yes, give women something they can exult in". The other mind says "There goes the mens' cigar room into oblivion".

An added plus of owning a SDDS is you won't see a woman wearing this watch and if she does buy it, she won't keep it for long.

The outrage over this non-issue seems to be a product of huge insecurity on the part of some men. Rolex releases a few 36mm Datejusts with flowers on them and now no man can be seen wearing any 36mm watch for fear of being considered effeminate?

I have seen a documentary in which a man underwent a surgery in order to become a woman, and vice versa.

Watch size is becoming an expression of one's identity, in my opinion.

This whole size issue is ridiculous. Why can't people just accept that different folks like different things? I'd for one never buy or wear a DSSD, but I accept that it exists, and am happy for the folks that like it. I am personally happy with my 36mm DJ; it's the perfect size (IMO) for a dress watch, and is the only watch I own that I can wear with french cuffs.

Does that make me a pansy, lady, or girlie-man? Anyone who thinks so, I'll PM you my address.

X2, Its 2009, you can wear whatever you like. Why do women wear "mens" size watches? ........... they like the way they look. Its just a marketing ploy to get you to buy another watch. Buy a 41d if you like them but don't fall for all this marketing crap.
