Tennis anyone?

Just spent a couple of days @ the US Open - didn't want to come home tonite!

Players that impressed me the most:

MELANIE OUDIN - what a spitfire!! At only 17, she's a serious threat on the Court ... although Maria is #1 in my book, I'm not certain who I'll be rooting for in Saturday's match! Besides her obvious sports talent, her polite & genuine charm, demeanor & off court presence is 101%! Even when she lost her (mixed doubles) match, she signed autographs & actually looked up at her fans! Class Act to go with the talent - America has another champ in line to follow the Williams sisters!

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI - a great player whose off court presence is even more admirable. After a well fought (& won) doubles match, a tired, sweat soaked Wozniacki could not have been more respectful of her admirers. Generous with autographs and actually looking at her fans, she was also more patient than could be reasonably expected in actually stopping for quick pics. ANOTHER CLASS ACT!!!

VICTORIA AZARENKA - an understated talent who was not having the best of luck the past few days - I know she is capable of much better. I think she also has great commercial appeal for endorsements ... but her after match interaction with fans leaves much to be desired. When she loses, she displays frustration/anger (at herself) too openly (imho) ... she picks up very abruptly & exits arena as fast as possible. When she wins, she is slightly better .. she scribbles a few autographs as if it is an effort for her ... all mechanical, no warmth, eye contact or personality. POLISH YOUR PUBLIC, VIC & YOU'LL BE A PERFECT CHAMP!

MISS SHARAPOVA - was not able to get back into Ashe in the evening to see my absolute #1 favorite as there no tickets to be had! I had a chance to buy 1 ticket at 11:00AM, but thought I would hold off till 2 tickets together became available - HA!- that won't happen again! GOOD LUCK MARIA - hope you are ready because Melanie O. is going to give you a real run on Saturday!

Already can't wait for September 2010!!!

yes I'm a big time tennis fan. Playing and watching matches whenever I can. Try to play at lease once a week nowadays.

Don't really pay attention to WTA players normally unless during the slams.

We went to the Wimbledon exhibition match between Mr & mrs Agasssi vs. Henman & Clister match back in may under the new roof. It was awesome to see "old" faces.

The wife and I are looking forward to go to end of the year master series in London. It should be fun.

Oudin just put away Maria, what a fun match! Very exciting to see a young up and coming American. Hopefully she can get to a Williams sister. Sharapova played well except her serve was as bad as I have ever seen.

I was there 3 nights this week and had a great time.

Needless to say my seats were not great. But what do you expect for $10 a seat.

Going for one night next week also.

(Federer in black on the far court... I should say farther court )

Maria is a much better player, but she can't hold a candle to Anna in the looks department...

I snapped these last summer.

WE BOUNCED AROUND SEVERAL DIFFERENT SEATS & YOU KNOW EVEN THE NOSEBLEED SEATS WEREN'T THAT BAD!

WE MOVED INTO THE SHADE OF THE EAST SIDE HIGH ALTITUDES OF ASHE IN THE EARLY AFTERNOON ... MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT THERE WAS THE CONSTANT FLOW OF SPECTATORS UP & DOWN STEPS OBSTRUCTING VIEW OF COURT.

IN ARMSTRONG & GRANDSTAND THEY LIMIT ENTRY TO BREAKS ONLY WHICH CAN BE A PAIN, BUT IS MOST COURTEOUS TO THOSE ALREADY SEATED!

Yeah, people constantly moving around was annoying.

I actually moved back a few rows (to row Z) for some peace.

Miss the 80s McEnroe v Connors matches, but I heard the two old-timers hit around for a couple hours while there this week. Would have loved to have seen it.

Wed. PM Excitement

Tonite's match is another for which I have mixed emotions.

I'm rooting for both - quality opponents!

I'll be happy for winner, but sad to see one's participation in this tourney end.

Predictions anyone ?

I guess long & drawn out 3 sets ... with MelO squeaking out another win.

Well I could not have been more wrong. Wazniaki played ok-not great. She had a lot of unforced errors. But Mello, not sure if it was nerves or fatigue-mental/physical. Really a shame. If she played 70% as well as she had the past few matches she would have won easily but she really killed herself with errors. Great run, she can really build on this. I would like to see Wazniaki or Clistjers win. I am totally butchering the spelling of these names.

Watching Federer - Soderling right now... that third set was awesome!! (it's 2-2 in the 4th set now)
I'm pretty sure Federer is going to win this one though!

Completely unprofessional actions and harassment in my view.... she deserves to be punished severely including monetary fine, loss of endorsements, and temporary banning from professional tennis.

She should also apologize to the line judge.

Serena was quoted, after this incident, that she is getting better with her temper. She has not apologized, and apparently threatened the line judge. I agree with you Pav.....this should not be the end of this for her, but she brings big $$ to the women's tour, and that's the end of that, I fear.

Serena was fined $10,500. That's the maximum, but total peanuts for her! Still no apology, and she can still play the doubles final!

But what about Kim Clijsters! Coming in with a wildcard, playing only her third tournament this year since she took an over 2 year break, had a child and lost her father to cancer, and she is the 2009 US Open CHAMPION!!!
I'm so proud to be Belgian!!!!

Miryena: did you see Kim's pics with her gorgeous daughter on the front page of the NY Times this morning? Wonderful! and, the article mentioned that Serena faces suspension...one can only hope and dream(but i'm not holding my breath, that's for sure).

Happy for Clisters as well. Actually happy for womens tennis that little-by-little the Williams sisters are becoming passe I was tired of their demeanor about 5 minutes after they first burst onto the scene. I like Venus better of the two , nothing serene about Serena.

As a huge tennis fan, I am really happy for Kim Clijsters. I was was a big fan before she stopped playing. I hope she plays a semi-full schedule next year, she is good for the game. Serena should be suspended. The tour is in a tough spot suspending it's top player but I think it should be done. On another note, that line's woman should be re-assigned to junior tournaments forever. You CANNOT call a foot fault at that point in the matc-it just is unheard of.

I too am a huge tennis fan (I went four days to the US open this year) and agree foot faults are not commonly called, but in what sport do you bend or ignore rules because its the end of the match.......

The call was made appropriately and Serena lost control of herself. Serena is the one who should be re-assigned to junior tournaments forever (or at least a long time).
